    Re: Goldenrod

Thank you, so warm winter, and wet conditions help? I have read various points on the nutritional quality of goldenrod honey too. Why is there so much confusion over this plant? Lol

    Goldenrod

Goldenrod, who has some good info on what causes it to produce necture? Every year we get a few days at most of the funky smell, and never much honey from it. Lots of pollen though. I have been told...

    Re: Refractometer for multiple ranges

Aunt Betty, while I acknowledge your poor attempt at humor, I do not need anyone's permission to spend my money as I see fit! Seeing how I have not signed my testicles over to anyone else for safe...

    Re: Refractometer for multiple ranges

I have been reading BS for almost 5 years now, do not recall too many threads claiming cheap is as good as quality, but I will do a little more digging, thank you

    Re: Refractometer for multiple ranges

Yup, hydrometers work just fine. Thought if I was buying, I might go whole hog. Personally, I am a lab rat, so am willing to pay for quality equipment. You do not have to have too much spoiled honey...

    Refractometer for multiple ranges

In addition to bee keeping, I also make maple syrup. I occasionaly brew up some beer, wine, or mead; just to keep things interesting. To that end, trying to find a refractometer that will work for...

Re: The forgotten "Dadant Deep" hive

I am running two of these hives, as of my last inspection they had drawn out 11 of the 14 frames. I spaced the last three into the brood nest, should be checking on them this afternoon.
  8. Sticky: Re: BeeThinking going out of business

And to think that I felt a little guilty selling a TBH for 150.00. If you wish to pay those prices, by all means this is a free country. At 399.00 a pop, on sale, you quickly pay for a table saw and...

    Re: 1 bar observation hive

I like it, our club has an observation hive, Lang, that we use for several events thru out the year. I have a small, model, TBH that we use to teach from. I may build a one or two frame observation...

Re: 1 gallon paint cans source

This is where I have been getting them, when on sale. I did not need a whole pallet of them, cheaper, from some of the industrial sites.

Re: The forgotten "Dadant Deep" hive

Shinbone, I too have a couple of boxes that look very similar to yours, have had bees in them for almost three weeks. So far I am really liking them, and am grateful to Fusion Power for his hard work...

Re: Starting packages in double nuc box?

Not sure what is better, but I started two of them, two weeks ago, with one package in the left side of each. They had two drawn combs to start, and drew the other two out quickly in a few days, and...

    Re: Removing black comb

I am using a few combs from an old commercial beekeeper that are about 40 years old. They are black as night, and the bees do not seem to care. The guy I got them from set up this rig to melt down...
  17. Re: One of my favorite pictures of a bee I've taken

Great Pic, I spend lots of time trying to get the, "just right" picture. Little buggers keep moving around, and flying off! LOL

    Re: Please help-top bar arrangement

1 1/4 for brood, 1 1/2 for honey, the brood bars go first and you should start with 10 or so. As they build out combs you will feed in new 1 1/4 bars till the flow starts. at that point they will...

Re: First year, easiest, best comb honey

I do foundationless cut comb, not a lot, but it sells quick up here. I am going to try for 10 lbs this year, just to put it in perspective! LOL Mike Palmers video is what I follow for cutting and...
