Sounds good. I'll swap it out for a solid bottom board.
I did combine them into a single deep with 1 drawn comb and 9 new frames w/foundation. They are now bearding and about half are inside the hive with the eggs the queen is laying. Weird.
2nd swarm caught on July 12th. This was in the same spot that I caught one last month. It was a big one that went into both nuc boxes.
Swarm commander has paid for itself! 50141
They are on a screened bottom board so I don't thing they are hot.
I'm pretty sure there isn't any chemical smell in it.
Maybe I'll just but another box on and see if that helps.
Caught a big swarm that went into 2 nuc boxes baited with Swarm Commander.
Put it into a single deep with 1 drawn frame and the rest with new foundation. Alot of the bees are bearding on the front....
Swarm catch #2 on 7-12. Big one that went into 2 nuc boxes.
Swarm Commander has paid for itself!
For me it's easier to just sell out of my house through word of mouth, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. No need to jump through all the hoops to be able to sell it in stores. Plus you can charge...
Your right. I also kept hearing about how the trap must be a hollow cavity too. This nuc had 5 fully drawn frames in it also. The bees know better than us!
6-11 Small swarm into a 5 frame nuc box set up as a trap. Baited with 5 frames of drawn comb and 2 squirts of Swarm Commander.
Sounds to me as if the original poster's hive has been taken over by AHB.
Attachments aren't working.
Small swarm caught in a 5 frame nuc box. Box was placed on the side of the house about 7 feet high. Had 5 oldish frames in it and 2 squirts of Swarm Commander. 1st time catching a swarm with a trap...
Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, work, church.
We also do a garage sale at my brothers who lives in a town that has a Maple Syrup festival every year. I set up a table with summer and fall honey...
Charlie B. & odfrank - do you have frames in your bait hives? If so are they old, new with foundation or foundationless?
Are you using LGO or Swarm Commander?
I would say my average loss is 30%.
I did notice one was dead in Nov. but didn't inspect it to see what happened.
I also didn't dig into the hives yesterday to see what was going on before they...
Yes, that was my only mite control. Worked pretty good for 8 years! Not sure why it didn't this year.
Temps were around 60 yesterday. Checked my hives and found I only had 1 out of 12 that was still alive. All 12 fall nucs I made were toast too.
Hopefully I won't run out of honey for the next year...
Sounds about right. Although for point f. I just do nucs/splits either with eggs or swarm cells.
Out of all the hives I have there are maybe 5 or 6 that produce like gangbusters. The rest will maybe produce a medium super of honey. I'm ok with only getting 1000 lbs of honey a year at this point...
I've been keeping bees now since 2005 and have never treated. For the first few years I was on the package bee route. I'd buy the bees, they'd last through the 1st winter but almost always died the...
I always thought it smelled like sweet butter. My wife says dirty feet. :)
Not much of a fall flow in Michigan this year. 255 lbs from 10 hives.
Are you sure you have a queen in there?
