    Re: Want More Honey

Just because they are uncapped does not mean they are not ready. You would be surprised how often I test uncapped frames with a refractometer and they are plenty dried out. To get a bigger honeycrop...
  3. Re: How much honey to give your hive land sponsors

I give mine 2 gallon in bottles. Good bee yards and nice folks to work with are important. Keep their place clean. I tell them if they run out to let me know and I will get them more. We stick 50...

    Re: Simple Harmony Farms uncapper

It works well on nice combs but so does everything else. Very quick. My wife doesn't like lack of wax gained from extracting. On soft thin celled combs used exclusively for honey it does a good job....
  5. Re: Odd Comb on Plastic Foundation

Keys to good straight combs are, A well mated queen, a good flow or feed program, fresh wax foundation or nicely coated plastic foundations. After years of wiring wax foundation I grew to hate it...

  7. Maybe 2nd generation beekeeper?

I am not a technologic person but I am thankful to have captured a moment of my 3 year old son getting into his first beehive. If he works bees as good as he eats honey we should be able to expand...

    Re: Team Beekeeping

The problem is is many teachers are too inexperianced. I have talked to WAY to many club presidents, college PHDs, and internet guru beekeepers who are incredibly incompetent but still have many...
  9. Re: Commiserate: Worst Advice You've Ever Followed, & Subsequent Disastrous Results

Shoot the list would take an hour to make. If there was "THE" one thing I could go back and change is when I first read about treatment free beekeeping. I wish lighting would have struck and...
  10. Re: Bringing in Apis cerana to the US (Solve varroa problem)

The treatment free beekeepers have already found the apis solution. Now if they could just share their stock and make it work for everyone.

    Sticky: Re: PMS or EFB?

Do the frames have decent coverage? Poor nurse bee to brood ratio will give you efb looking larvae. Types of viruses also look like efb. It also stand to reason that poor nutritional feeding coupled...

    Re: Pro nuc

Until those boxes can take a good drop I am sticking with jesters. I use those boxes all the time and I beat the heck out of those things. Jesters aren't perfect but I can Chuck 200 them out of a...
  14. Re: Ultra Bee Patties New Package

Once the colonies are about 8 frames of bees and there is a flow I don't feed anything. Those patties will come in handy during a dearth of pollen though.
  15. Re: green marked queen in my swarm trap

Yeah, I hate throwing swarms! Drawn comb is a beekeepers best friend and I still need alot more!
  16. Re: green marked queen in my swarm trap

    Sticky: Re: EFB options

I kill the queen if signs of EFB arise and there are low mite levels. Mites can stress bees to the point where Efb looking symptoms arise. Elminating the mites and having a flow or feed on, often...

  24. Re: It's official - My 2 NUCS arrived Saturday but I was told to wait to transfer ??

I totally agree you should be able to get what you pay for. I use to be the consumer and trust me I have been sold some bad bees. One of the above posters mentioned having to go thru the whole thing...
  25. Re: It's official - My 2 NUCS arrived Saturday but I was told to wait to transfer ??

While it sounds like the supplier had some issues think of it from the seller's point of view.
I don't have time to walk thru inspections on hundreds of nucs. I don't even have time for your...
