Re: Double screen board requeening method

Mine are made from redwood S4S 2X4 cut 1.5 wide with the inside 3/4" dado-ed out on which to staple the 1/8" mesh. The front extends as a landing board with a 4" wide entrance. Picture is a bait box...
  2. Re: Despair is the Mother of invention, alternative use for topbar hive.

This was another combination for drying a variety of honey supers. 8 frames on top of octagon Warre. Bees work up better than down, so the Langs on top of the Warres is best for getting them to move....
  3. Re: Brand New Soon to Be Beekeeper With Hive Question

Paint additional wax onto the plastic foundations. Paint the equipment.
  4. Re: Bait hives? Does size matter? It's the log!

I would think it will be equally helpful on full hives.

I am happy that my spreading the word about logs has improved your trapping success.

    Re: Bee Vac fail

Vacuuming slowly with low pressure and a cone nozzle helps avoid clogs. If we sense a clog we reverse the hose and blow out the clog. We often work two of us, one vacuuming and the other adjusting...

    Re: Storing built out frames

I have kept bees for 50 years. I have never frozen a frame. I manage about 150 hives and a few hundred honey supers. I suffer minimal wax moth and SHB problems primarily on hives that die in mid...
  10. Bait hives? Does size matter? It's the log!

I have proposed for years that good swarms are attracted to many size boxes. And that placing an attractive piece of wood on top enhances the bait hive's attractiveness to the bees. I have my pile of...
  11. Re: when swarm moves in, how long to relocate to permanent home?!?

If they are not at their permanent spot and I want them on an other at the same apiary, I move them as soon as most are in. Most of them seem to mark their location on the first time they leave, not...

Re: How often to re-bate swarm trap

Got to Brag!!! Caught this one probably from my own hives onto 10 Jumbo depth black combs. LGO baited about a month before. I rarely rebait.

You trust YouTubers but not a 17 year BeeSource veteran poster who for years sold bareroot BeeBee trees in Beesource?
    Good luck with that.

    Re: Bee Bee Tree Seeds

Boiling water for an hour might/probably cooks them dead.

    1. mix them with slightly moist sand, place in a baggie in the refrigerator for 4 weeks, or
    2. roll them up in slightly wet paper...

    Re: Bee Bee Tree Seeds

A few weeks. Did you stratify them?
  17. Despair is the Mother of invention, alternative use for topbar hive.

I had two eight frame extracted supers that needed drying but no appropriate hive to dry them on. We notched two spacer bars, stacked on the supers and added some pans for weather proofing.

    Re: Electric Leaf Blower

    >is it best to break out the rake?

Bees hate raking. Electric blower better. I have not had problem even with a gas blower. Just minimize your overall presence as much as possible.

Re: Ladies please make up your mind!

    >As soon as they settle in i am going to take them to where i keep bees.

Or set a trap where you keep bees and you will save moving them.

Re: What size jars of honey sell most?

Same here. I offer 1/2 pints $10, pints $15 and quarts $25. Pints sell the most. I sell out of my house with a self serve cabinet. I have been selling here for 47 years.

Re: set the 1st swarm traps, have some ???

Take a heat gun. Melt some propolis inside the traps. As you melt the propolis drip on a few drops of LGO. This worked for me with brand new 10 frame traps. This is a swarm moving into one of those...

You can leave one drawn comb for the queen to start laying in. But a large swarm on a flow can draw out a box in a few days. Feeding is fine but might not be needed.

  23. Re: L:arge swarm hived - frame orieentation approach?

Shake them off the comb and onto all all foundation.
  24. Re: finding efficiency with nuc sales; specifically transportation/boxes?

We use ratchet straps because they can be tightened so firm that boxes do not slide. Duct tape is used on open seams. Review your ratchet strap technique.
