    Re: Prolific Propolisers W/Photo

I had a 5x5x5 blow over in a storm one time, luckily it was strapped together, and I knocked one over with the lawn mower, once. Both times they were not appreciative of my efforts to make things...

    Re: Taste of Goldenrod Honey

I was reading somewhere recently that in order to have a good GR flow was to have some rain when the flower buds begin to form. Around here that would be Aug./ Sept. I have not been paying close...

Re: Chemical free mite control trap/split

This could be labeled as another variation or use of the Snelgrove board. If you are not aware of, "Swarming and it's Prevention", by L. E. Snelgrove, you might benefit from his work to accomplish...

That's new to me, as well. I've seen a lot on the interior in different ways, but not on the outside.

Looks like they're about finished. If they leave a hole big enough to get my caliper through, I'll see how thick it is.

    Re: Prolific Propolisers W/Photo

    Greg,
I have seen tinctures for sale on E-Bay, but I don't know what they are used for or the claims made. That will be easy enough to find.

    Steve,
I would be very interested in your results come Spring.
:pinch: Busted for sidetracking my own thread. Oh well, that's the way conversations go. :)

    Re: Prolific Propolisers W/Photo

I am going to leave it be for now, as I now treat from the rear with a Pro-Vap from Johno. When I was using a wand I was always waiting for the countdown to turn off the power prior to removing the...

    Re: Prolific Propolisers W/Photo

I just start watching for the foraging activity to decrease and keep an eye on the weather forecast. I am going to leave it be for now as long as predators don't take advantage of the lack of a...

    Re: Global Warming

I doubt the Aussies would let us in to their country, because someone would just have to bring their bees with them with their attending mites.

Re: Two different bee races in one colony.

Did they ever have any capped brood in the brood chamber(bottom box)?

It is very odd they didn't drawn any comb despite being fed all year.

I would see if I could find a Queen or single eggs...

    Re: Taste of Goldenrod Honey

I did state, "in my part of the country", in response to your blanket statement of "Bad for the bees", instead of, "Bad for my Northern bees. I can only relate what happens in my area. We do have a...

About two years ago this part of the country was infested with the aphids that secrete honeydew. It was mainly in the Hackberry trees. Everywhere a Hackberry was overhanging a paved back road it...

    Re: Prolific Propolisers W/Photo

Michael, Interesting word origin. That made me look up "metropolis", metro, fr., meter (mother)+(polis) city. Sort of ties the whole thing together. Thanks

    Fivej,
The setup is the same as the majority. Even the positions are relatively the same. I have them on stands of 3 and 4, facing S/SE.

    Prolific Propolisers W/Photo

Some bees just like their propolis. These are the only ones of 23 colonies that have done this.
I guess they decided since I haven't reduced the entrances, they will just do it themselves.

    Re: Global Warming

Since it only snows a couple inches a year at the south pole and the wind blows like crazy, how can we be sure the ice core samples from the past are accurate?

Re: Johno's Easy Vap - Vaporizer

I drilled mine in the filler board of the bottom board opposite the entrance reducer. I don't think it matters though, because as with a pan type device as soon as the oav begins rising the bees...
