    Re: Image-blocking

The problem is obvious. This site doesn’t permit nudity. Even while eating fondant.
  2. Re: The use of 48hr queen cells to spread resistant genetics

Very interesting news about 48 hr. QCs. Never would have guessed they are so hardy. But who are you going to get good queen cells from? I wouldn’t know who to trust. Anyone selling anything makes...

    Bernhard ,

Don’t leave us hanging! What happened to the bee? Did she make friends? Start any new hobbies?

    Re: Tight Smoker Lid

Anyone evaluated the benefits of smoking? I stopped smoking because I see no difference between smoking and not smoking. Given their almost universal use I feel like I’m missing something. Then...
  5. Re: Top-bar hive flipped over by the wind! (January 8th, Wake Forest, NC)

Good strong hive with little damage. In my experience (none) they’ll do fine. But do put them back in the box.

Re: What to do with old, dark brood comb

New to bee keeping. Why are you melting old wax? Does it go bad? Why not make new wax without brood? And they say there are no dumb questions!

    Re: Propolis Tincture Question

shouldn’t propolis vary by location. It comes from the local flora. So, we can’t really discuss the benefits of propolis since there is likely a huge difference between propolis from Louisiana and...

Re: Moisture Board versus Quilt Block?

There was no mention of the location of the vent holes on air flow. If you have an inner cover with a center opening (versus a side opening ) you will have air flow guided to the center rather than...
  9. Re: funny story, really short on facts but high on speculation

I like it. Good for him. Wonder if it will last?
  10. Re: Advice on finding properties to place beehives?

Lots of ads on Craigslist for bee siting.
I worry about placing hives near agricultural concerns for fear of pesticides. We have strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and apples here. Anyone...

Re: Hello. I have a queenless hive .

Ifixoldhouses, What do you mean it didn’t work?

How should one go about adding bees to a hive? Shake them out near the hive and let them walk in?

    Re: Power For A Vaporizer

What is the opinion of the crowd about the need for a mask? I vape down wind. If I smell it I move away.

    Re: Global Warming

Too many people consuming too much.
Too hard a solution to accept.
Optimists want to work for a solution.
    Pessimists want to deny science.
Realists realize that the future is mass migration...

    Re: bee stings

Another non-medical reply. We see variation in phenotype over time with our colonies. I think it is reasonable to assume that the venom has some variation as well. I had a systemic reaction in the...

    Re: bee stings

You might consider wearing protection. I use 9 mil nitrile gloves. Very effective, great feel, and long lasting.
When stung I use hydrocortisone and diphenhydramine cream (and lots of it). ...

    Re: OAV and Brood damage

Isn’t the objective to COAT bees and hive surfaces? Whether dribble or vapor you are introducing OA which will contact the bees and mites for several days. With that in mind I doubt it matters...

    Re: Cleaning my leather gloves

I am very averse to stings, but switched to 9 mil nitrile gloves.
You CAN get stung if you force the stinger against a finger (I got cavalier), but even then the sting is less than 10% as painful...

Anyone done a convincing lemongrass vs. swarm commander experiment?

Thanks grozzie. I heard comments that grafting caused excessive cost to the hive. Curious if that is a myth.

    Re: Robbing of queen castles

Thank you. Will robber screens effect the mating flights?
Also, I think the only bugs around are my bees and some yellow jackets. Is open feeding still a bad idea? I cannot feed the queen...
