Re: Adam & Kelly @ VP Queen Bees

I uncap 150 7-8 day post capping worker cells under a microscope. I inspect each one, and use a count sheet, to count no mites, dead mites, late (unsuccessful) reproducing mites, and successful...

Re: Adam & Kelly @ VP Queen Bees

VP does not select just on VSH, and as far as I know they are not (maybe they are now?) doing the VSH assay. They are obviously keeping VSH high in their breeders, and what they are doing is working....

Re: Adam & Kelly @ VP Queen Bees

    Well more about her,

on VSH assay she scored 75% (total of 2 assays for confirmation), on liquid nitrogen she scored 100%. She is still kicking.

Her open mated daughters are all great, but all...

    Re: Saskatraz Updates?

What is the claimed Saskatraz mite resistance/tolerance mechanism(s)?
  6. Re: Caucasian Bees, a new project + propolis/wax recycling

Ah ok. I'm just trying to hustle up some drone mothers from pure caucasians. I've hustled up 3 so far, and I have the two breeders, but I certainly need more to keep this going long term.
  7. Re: Caucasian Bees, a new project + propolis/wax recycling

If you have a couple of the WSU Breeders, I'd sure like a few daughters off of them.

I've had a hard time locating others with them to get daughters.
  8. Re: Caucasian Bees, a new project + propolis/wax recycling

I'm sure I have some that recycle too, but in a yard with 70+ hives ive not seen it to this extent, I mean at least each stand (4hives) has a ball of wax and propolis on it, and within a day of...
  9. Re: Caucasian Bees, a new project + propolis/wax recycling

Sure, I believe the NUCs i got with them were hybrids, so it wont be until next year that I really experience them.

  11. Caucasian Bees, a new project + propolis/wax recycling

I've been trying to get this project going for a bit. Had a rough start getting drone mothers from known WSU breeders going, but I managed to get a few, and WSU is setting me up with some additional...

    Re: Olympic Wilderness Apiary

They are just really great people all around. Really helped me hone in my selection and pickiness on my queens. Always there to help, from cutting out two hives that had not been opened in a decade...
  13. Re: What's the longest delay for queen mating you might see due to weather

I check at day 7 post mating (i do ii at day 6-7, so i check at 14 days). Most are laying by then, the longest delay ive had was 3 weeks post mating to lay. I should have pinched her but got busy,...

    Broke T - Johnny Thompson

Keeping it short, Johnny goes above and beyond. If you are looking for open mated VSH Queens, he is a good bet.
  15. Northern II VSH Breeder Queens - Only a few left

VSH expression percentages confirmed through assay testing, no guess work here. These are real VSH queens, and their daughters will be too. Our selection process is very strict, all queens weighed...

Re: Queen Timing - Fast Bees

This, I have better luck with 6-12 hour, I tried fresh hatch, but far fewer were accepted (i think im damaging them?), no noticeable difference in the queens either

Re: help with grafting from older comb

I use the grafting tool to push the cell walls out a bit, enough to see then I get the larvae. Bees seem to fix it faster than scraping away a chunk.

Re: Opinon on who refunds a dud queen ???

Most likely this, but they will remove marks.

Had this the other week, purchased some queens for drone mothers, they came paint marked, clip her and introduce.

Week later no eggs, no bright red...

    Fair enough.

My issue is what was sold to me being not as described. My issue is with the people doing the selling, and how they advertised it, not with how it actually functions. If it were...
