    Re: I made creamed honey!

I accidentally made creamed honey too. I harvested when it was really hot last summer and put it in the freezer. There were more open cells than I liked maybe 20 percent, so this winter, I thawed it...

    Re: New to bees

The kits aren’t much cheaper. I’d decide what you want and buy by the piece. Tops and bottoms are very easy to make if you want to save money. I don’t like the telescoping tops with inner covers. I...

Re: Bee hive in a water meter 2018

Iíve read that if they are in the ground they are likely to be Africanized. No AHBs here, so just passing on what I read.

    Wow! Thatís awful.

It seems like they worked pretty hard to be random vandals? That level of destruction took a while.

It doesnít look too good for them, but 90 percent losses seems unlikely to me....

    Re: Trapped my first swarm

I wonder if you might have used too much LGO?

Iíd probably wait a few more days. They could be just getting ready for the move. If the nuc has frames, thereís no big hurry.

GWW, the crab apple should work fine.

I just checked my three hives. They were all heavy at first frost, three medium ten frames mostly filled up. The one with the most bees had lost quite a bit...

Re: How to Harvest/Process "Wild" Honey

How cold did it get? If it warms up, you may have more angry bees than you expect.

    Re: Missouri

If your apples are blooming but not producing, they might not be pollinating. Are they both the same variety? Even if they aren't the same variety, they could be varieties that can't pollinate each...

    Re: Missouri

I just saw some henbit or purple dead nettle blooming. I don't know how to tell them apart. It's really dry.

Re: Where and how to store drawn comb

Is storing them on top of the hive a problem in colder areas? I wonder if the cluster might move up above the stores and starve?

    Re: Missouri

I don't see anything blooming now. They were still drying something Saturday. I wonder if it could be honeydew? I saw a few bees buzzing around an elm tree today.
  15. Re: Puerto rico finally woke up to bees and how important they are

I read that they are encouraging people to put out sugar water, and some people are doing it. Really great with all the problems people are having.

Bee Matt, good idea about swarm traps. There...

  18. Re: SHB with weak colonies - number of beetle traps, and locations?

Three mediums is ideal. But one medium without beetles is better than three with lots of beetles. You can always feed dry sugar or candy boards.

If you have some beetle damaged frames with no...
  19. Re: SHB with weak colonies - number of beetle traps, and locations?

That sounds like a lot of beetles to me, but I'm no expert. If the boxes aren't full of good brood and honey, I'd crowd them into two boxes or even one. Take out any badly damaged frames, and freeze...

Bees were busy yesterday. Not sure what they're on. The only thing I saw blooming was asters and they weren't on them.

Most things look as dead as if we already had a frost. I think the dry...

    Re: Missouri

Cbay, what day were you in Barton County? It seems like we should start having a good flow soon. I had 3.5 inches of rain in Vernon County last weekend. Did you have enough?
