    Re: Disappointing Fall Inspection

Yes, as you suspected, dangerously high mite count on the hive not taking syrup. Definitely failing. I guess their mite chewing traits weren't strong enough!

    Disappointing Fall Inspection

I've been feeding 5 strong hives for the past 4 weeks. The strongest hive of the group hasn't taken any feed. I've tried switching containers twice, but to no avail.

When I checked today, only 1...

Thanks for the offer! I'm going to have to make a nuc for this primo queen I have. I like overwintering some nucs anyway!

    Re: Simple Harmony Farms Uncapper

I use it. We have 4ish hives, so no need for high capacity equipment. It can be a little tricky on uneven frames, but overall I would recommend it

    Queen Rearing with Mediums?

I flew out to Purdue last June to take their course on Queen Rearing. It was an enjoyable and educational experience. Upon my return I realized that everything I learned was based on deeps, and I...

    Harvesting honey

I know this sounds like a dumb question..... does it matter to the bees if you remove frames of capped honey as they are made, or is there a reason to allow them to complete an entire box?

Nancy, I just received my Lyson solar melter. Do you use it for cappings as well? Do you do any type of filtering or cleaning first?

I don't have any italians. 2 Palmer hives, one VSH Carny, 1 WV Mountain queen, 1 Anarchy.
None of them showed signs of queenlessness to me; bringing in pollen, fairly calm, etc. I didn't do a full...

Re: New River Honey Bees in West Virginia

I had ordered from Dan O'Hanlon in the past. He is retiring, and recommended Jason at New River. I have had good experiences with the Mountain State Group, and would trust Jason to be a good breeder.
