  1. Re: Sloppy marking - Testor model paint for marking queens runs all over the place

I had the exact same experience this weekend with the exact same paint as you. I'm going to try one more time after shaking it better. After that it is going in the trash.

Re: At least 10/18 Queens die in cage

Here's some attention. I agree with you. I would get mine out in a tornado if I had to. It is disheartening to see how many people create their own problems and then get all bent out of shape...

    Re: OA vaporizer recomendation?

Best of luck. You will find it is real easy to add me to the ignore list. It is a very easy and very useful function.

    Re: OA vaporizer recomendation?

A cheap import? You didn't buy the same product I did then. It wasn't cheap, didn't perform as if it were cheap, and didn't feel or appear cheaply made.

American made? I'm sure if you have a...

Re: At least 10/18 Queens die in cage

I think it is reasonable for the queen supplier to expect you to immediately place them into a hive. I personally would not expect anything from the seller if they arrived alive and healthy. In my...

    Re: Thoughts on treatment-free

They may also develop a way to deal with mites that makes them unsuitable fir honey production. For example swarming or absconding frequently. Or how about dying out in most areas and only...
  9. Re: Requeening honey bee colonies without dequeening

The one that emerged on June 1st into a world where the days were getting longer. The queen after June 21 would emerge into a world where the days were getting shorter and would not experience that...
  10. Re: Requeening honey bee colonies without dequeening

I don't know if it does or doesn't matter, but, it is not just a random date. It signifies a change in day length which could have an affect on behavior.

    Re: Two queen colony?

My two queen hive plan is to break my hives up into twice as many as I want in July of this year and requeen . I'll overwinter twice as many as I want. Next year in the last week of April I'm going...
  12. Re: Requeening honey bee colonies without dequeening

Just so I understand correctly. At the top your saying A May queen will do just as well as a queen raised after June 21. At the bottom your saying have new queens by the middle of July and watch...
  13. Re: Requeening honey bee colonies without dequeening

Is it possible it is not a difference in the queens as much as a difference in the number of winter bees they layed in the fall? Once again, I have seen it suggested several times that a queen...

Thanks Saltybee. I'll have to try that next time. I appreciate the link.

    Re: Two queen colony?

;)The problem of course being if he were in our apiaries, dealing with our local conditions, trying to meet our goals, he might do some of it different. :)
  16. Re: Would you buy nucs from someone who demanded you inspect each one before leaving?

I think it is great to offer, but, not demand. If your going to sell to the public you need to develop thick skin. Do it right and if you have any doubt you did then make it right. You have to...
  17. Re: Best Way to Combine Large Queenless Hive with Small Nuc

No problem. I thought you might know something of use to me regarding combining with screens and laying workers. Thanks anyway.
  18. Re: Best Way to Combine Large Queenless Hive with Small Nuc

Not sure what quest your on Billboard, but, for all practical purposes all that seems to be beside the point. Could you answer all my previous questions?
  19. Re: Best Way to Combine Large Queenless Hive with Small Nuc

I had seen that suggested recently on here myself. I tried that with a couple of boxes a couple of weeks ago. Lost both queens. I think the paper is to limit their interaction to start with. ...

    Awesome.
  21. Re: Best Way to Combine Large Queenless Hive with Small Nuc

I mentioned I would make sure their was not a laying worker in the queenless hive before combining.

I don't understand either Billboard. I shook out 2 hives last weekend because they had laying...
  22. Re: Requeening honey bee colonies without dequeening

I don't know about that; the big claim I've seen is that they lay like a spring queen. That was true of the queens I bought last August. I guess that could help them survive the winter.

Re: When can I split my colonies?

That is definitely good advice. You can split them the first year depending on how much work, how many resources, and how much your willing to risk. I split my 4 packages and 4 nucs into 32 the...
  24. Re: Best Way to Combine Large Queenless Hive with Small Nuc

I must be lucky. I've done several this way. Are paper combines really that risky? Is it just because the queen portion was in a nuc? I've done probably a dozen newspaper combines in the last...
  25. Re: Best Way to Combine Large Queenless Hive with Small Nuc

I'm a little confused. I've seen it stated over and over that you can't just add a queen to hives with laying workers. Not true?? A paper combine is more work than adding a screen and taking it...
