Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

Today we have a warmer day than the last few really COLD days here in the NE. The sugar shims are on all but 2 hives, and saw many hives that had orienting bee’s. I’m very happy with that.
  4. Sticky: Re: bone head split so far, somebody save the day.

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

Did they give you an approximate price for the frame and who would be funding this? Just curious. Also, it’s a deep frame, many hobbyist beekeepers are or have already transitioned to all mediums. ...

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

Good point, they did mention something about the heat; I liken it to doing a sugar roll where the mites detach from the bee because of the heat. As for propolizing the space, in their experiments...

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

Somehow it senses the color of the mite and the shininess of their bodies, which is why it will detect a trop. mite also.

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

They also mentioned it would kill tropilaelaps mites too, if they ever get into the US. Someone mentioned at the end how it would work with Dr Bromenshenks Bee Guru App.

    Mites zapped by laser frame

I just listened to Bee Culture/Kim Flotum podcast. Grow-NY has a competition with a million dollar prize. One of the finalists have invented a frame that zaps the mites on the bees. Very innovative...

Re: The right number of hives to keep it fun

Yes. I started bees for “me”, at a much needed time in my life. I love the bees and don’t want to grumble about caring for them.

Re: The right number of hives to keep it fun

Having visited your place last year (with Pat) I agree! Nice KNOWLEDGEABLE people and polite honey bees, it was the best experience ever. I wish I had found the maple ice cream though! My cheerful...

    Re: Bee's Gone

It would be a good investment to buy a small one, check for a local used one. Are your hives near any power lines? They were spraying here a few months ago a few local beeks mentioned. I would think...

Agree, table it till NYS beekeepers know what Mandatory regulations state. Transparency is needed.
