Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

Hi Heather, I do believe that all the rain, and high humidity has helped the beetles out this spring. And I feel they are coming in droves to our hives. Despite good mgmt. And allot of attempts,...

Re: How to chek hives during dearth?

I use little or no smoke on my hives. Except larger hives. I work them as normal. Seems to go well for me. I use a hooded jacket, and nitrile gloves. Rich

Re: Too much pollen. What to do...

Wow, I'd say there is never too much pollen
I'd leave enough for the bees, and just freeze the extra frames, or put 1 frame in splits each. Pollen traps in your situation could be useful, and...

Re: Is the egg or the drone more important?

The genetics of any livestock are the queen, bull ect. Are 50% of the queen, and the other is mixed in from multiple matings from various drones. Any good queens, are the best to breed from. You just...

Re: How to chek hives during dearth?

I don't seem to have an issue with hive inspections during the dearth. It's when I leave it open for way too long, or trying to feed the weak ones at this time. After my botched in hive feeding of...

    Re: Richinbama 2018-2020 beekeeping quest

Hi Heather. Sorry to hear about the back issues, and the wreck that caused them. Bad thing about the back troubles are, they seem to never go away, and most of the time get worse. Did you go to...

  16. Re: Oxalic acid is harmless - I don't bother removing honey supers any longer.

Wow, i thought this was a joke. Honestly, I'd never injest any chemical, or bleach into my body, or into honey intended for sale or not. I guess you cleaned your innards off well. Is an acid or wood...

    Re: Hobbyist bottling tank suggestions?

  21. Re: What do you guys finish your hives with?

Use a spar urethane. It's marine grade, and uv protection built in. Regular urethane will peel allot of the time. I use a exterior primer and 2-3 coats of exterior semi floss from glidden premium....
