    Sumac is the best smoker fuel, produces a nice smoke, stays lit forever and is free. Some cultures use it as a spice.

    I read the article about sumac having a limited effect on varroa last year....

    buy some TEMP QUEEN STRIPS come back in a week, add some brood frames and or a queen, and you are done.

    Yes, you do have to prep the frames, but you have to anyway so they will fit in the extractor.

    I wish i knew more about the QMP, whether it is a generic qmp pheromone so the bees sense there is enough present but dont really bond to the scent.

    I have never risked a direct release and always use the transport cage..it makes sense to wait a while to remove as much of the chance for disaster as possible....thanks

    Can I add a queen to a new split or do I have to wait a while for them to sense they are queenless?

    I have had a temp queen strip (QMP) in a queenless hive for about 2 days and have the mated queen in hand. Do I need to wait to place the queen cage in the hive after I remove the temp queen strip...
