Not wax coated - can't ship/import it out of Oz.

Re: What do bees do when it is raining?

They uncap all the capped honey, eat it, and giggle at how the nectar that wasn't already capped is soaking up the moisture.

  5. Re: Anybody overwintering in 1/4 dcoates nucs in zone 5b or colder?

Not in your zone - I am in 7A. Average mins are 5 to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. We had especially extended periods of sub freezing weather this year compared to most other years.

    I successfully...

    Re: Selling candles, success stories?

At the several "Products of the Hive" talks that pop up at the few bee clubs I belong to, the candles and molds are always out on display as part of the program. I always make a point to ask about...

Re: Plastic VS Metal Queen Excluder On Flowhive

    16" x 19 7/8" x 9 5/8" are the dimensions for a 10-frame deep.

I fail to see the problem.

Plastic excluders work just fine although some say that the plastic edges are tougher on bees than the...

Re: 200,000 honey bees killed in Prunedale

You think that's too much? Too easy?

$200 per hive for almond pollination: $20,000.00
Replace 200 complete hives - everything was doused with diesel. Lets lowball that at another $200 per hive:...

Re: What's up with this site?

I've been a web developer since the mid-nineties and that is an insane reason to block the forums from search engine results. All this site really is is the forum. It's SERP gold. I'm not buying it...

Re: Practical video camera for YouTube videos?

I use a coolpix L840 for most of my youtube videos. The only drawback is the lack of an external microphone so I cannot use a lapel mic.

    Re: Swarms showed up?

Well, I appreciate the insights. I'll go get my eyes checked too. To think I overlooked those swarm cells! At any rate, I'm up a hive unless of course, I miscounted. ;)
Sure hope the bees in the 50...
  15. Sticky: Re: BeeThinking out of business, morphing into BeeBuild.com

Everything I ever received from BeeThinking was improperly cut. Box joints needed to be sanded or chiseled, wood was warped, roofs leaked.
Did the Flow Hive deal hurt? Hell yes it did. BeeThinking...

    Swarms showed up?

Day before yesterday, I looked out the window and saw a swarm in the apiary. I ran outside and not a single one of my hives was issuing the swarm.
I captured the swarm, put it in a nuc with drawn...

    Re: NJ beekeepers unite!

You're missing the point - Look to see who benefits from the passage of this law. Hobbyists? No. Commercial beekeepers are the ones that are ultimately protected. "Our Lt. Gov at the time promised...

1st Cutout Success (No vacuum either)

A call came into the bee club for a swarm removal so I jumped on the opportunity and called the homeowner and asked for a picture. The picture was absolutely a swarm but it was a swarm moving into...

    Re: Reasonably decent harvest

I stopped reading at this point because my brain broke.
  23. Re: What happens if I leave my hives full of honey and only pull frames when we need

As stated already: It could crystallize. It could get robbed out. It gets in the way if treating for mites. It gets hard to defend from pests as population drops etc.etc.

Pull it and freeze it in...
