    Re: Ebay Extractors?

You get what you pay for.
Keep in mind parts, service and resale value.
A good extractor is an investment.

    Re: Used equipment

Yeah, possible diseased comb is a different story especially if it involves plastic.
Frames are cheap compared to bacterial diseases

    Re: Used equipment

I disagree.I just assembled 50 new frames in about an hour and 10 min.
The old frames first go into a solar melter, box included. All wax is completely melted off. Then it's less than a minute per...

I always put tape over the candy plug when introducing a Rus Q,even into my Rus mutt hives
After 4-5 days I will check by brushing the bees on the screen with finger to see how well they are holding...

Re: Treat mites all the time?

I agree with what's been said above and would also add to learn how to monitor for mites.
Personally I would be wary of buying a nuc from this person without getting some clarification.Some...

  9. Re: Lost hives - How to store honey over winter to restart in Spring?

Why put them in the freezer when it's below freezing outside.
Cleanout the dead bee and screen entrances to keep out mice and ants.
In CT I don't see any wax moth damage until end of May so they...
  10. Re: Russian bees and swarm control timing

Difficult to judge your conditions over the net.You may have pollen coming in but bees won't draw comb unless there's a good flow or lacking that, feeding and warm temps. You have to judge for yourself...
  11. Re: Russian bees and swarm control timing

Not in SC but have had Rus in CT for a few years. If you have brood on more than 50% of the frames move them up asap. They will fill a nuc in a blink!
Give them plenty of room to expand and try to...

    Re: Mowing rows

Used carpet is free for the asking at most carpet stores.Who wants to mow?
Occasional weed wack around the bear fences to get the stragglers that a spring Roundup application doesn't control.
  13. Re: Respirator suggestion to use with Easy Vap

    Agree with Harry.
What you never hear on social media is that respirators come in different sizes for different shaped faces.
Or that you should always perform a positive and negative pressure test...

    Re: Honey extractor choices

If you are new,I wouldn't rush into an extractor purchase.Have you joined your local or state bee club?Almost all have loaners or rentals.
Have you been to any meetings where there are equipment...

Re: Solar Wax Melter for JW Palmer

Wax melters and grills both last a lot longer if stored inside during the off season.
My wheels are from an old lawnmower and are pretty good on semi rough terrain

Re: Any New Swarm Trapping Tricks?

I try to mount my traps under a limb so I can use a rope to lower that huge swarm you didn't notice for a month.
The more traps you put out the greater your luck.

    Re: Honey extractor choices

A quality stainless extractor like a Maxant will hold hold its value and can easily be resold.
A cheapy ends up in the trash.
PS. Buy extra supers. When the honey comes ,you need to grab it!!

    Re: BioVar varroa mite treatment

Hard to see what your problem is.
First thing I would do is replace any galvanized fittings.
