  2. lets make a plan. bear destroyed many hives but....

    friends hi.

i lost many hives from bear attack in western Greece and now i am left with 20 hives (lost 4 more from winter losses)

all hives are 3-4 frames population...
  3. Re: confused half the apiary swarmed. made nucs but not enough of them

9 out of ten nucs got established they made a nice rearing queen and i estimate to be 10 framers in 40 -50 days
i didnt expect such a high success rate.

i also shook the drone laying hive most...

  5. Re: minimum nuc requirememnts(make as many as possible)

michael bush i would love to listen to your idea on this.

  8. Re: minimum nuc requirememnts(make as many as possible)

    really good things.
    thanks
so i must make nucs at least 3 frames small(bees + brood) and queen cells so they get to the point of not taking tooo looong to grow in numbers but just long enough.

  9. minimum nuc requirememnts(make as many as possible)

    i am overthinking it ,

what is the lowest acceptable population mass without a queen for a nuc to get established?

can a two frame brood with population and a queencell get established?

    Re: Hive has no eggs

yes give it some open brood frame maybe some emerging brood frame too to boost population.

    Re: help me become commercial

well maybe making 30 more "baby" nucs with queen cells from the hives that didnt swarm . and then make like 40 more 1 frame nucs(brood only) plus a mated queen with a pattie might be feasible
  12. Re: confused half the apiary swarmed. made nucs but not enough of them

i fed them yday now again tomorrow 1 kg syrup inverted acidic 1/1, it is some small cost in it but i have the feeling they will surprise me sooner

  15. average minutes per hive . ispection costs etc

  16. Re: confused half the apiary swarmed. made nucs but not enough of them

yes i am back for good.
swarming is a pain but i see a good varroa treatment potential in it.

    other thing i fear is...

Re: how does this look like to you....

thats the thing. generally i place a frame of sealed brood to my starter every week to maintain the population. since the hard job of finishing is done by a double with a queen excluder

Re: how does this look like to you....

8 frames of brood sounds like a bee bomb :) . well i always thought that a cell starter doest have to be soo strong instead the cell finisher has to.

    brood stimulation means more foraging?
