    Re: Radial Extractor Help

With only 6 or 8 hives, you could easily get by with a smaller extractor. Have you considered the Ranger Electric Power Extractor M00401? It is a six frame radial, with a metal basket. We have one...

    Sticky: Re: Flow Hive/Frames

Therein lies the problem with FlowHive. They are a cute novelty and will pretty much do what they say it will do. It just won't do the things they convenienty don't say much about. Marketing hype.

Re: Hello from Captgreg AKA fishing

That's awesome! I'm often surprised more research hasn't been done on apitherapy and the many benefits it can have.

    Re: Rube Goldberg Warre Beekeeping

    Ollie,

You must have very classy bees for them to rate having their own penthouse at the top of the tower!

    What do you call that?
    Bee-sars Palace?
    Mont-Bee Carlo Resort?
    The...

Re: Hello from Captgreg AKA fishing

    I second that.

    And welcome to BeeSource!

If you are unable to get out of the chair and need to work your bees, there was a thread a while back about beekeepers in wheelchairs and how they go...

    Re: Wild honeybees?

Lets see... bees easily forage out 3-5 miles. The area of a circle with a radius of five miles is 78.54981 square miles. Trying to determine if there are any hummingbird feeders in that 78.5 square...

  13. Problems with "Milestone" (Aminopyralid) spraying?

Has anyone had any problems losing bees after nearby spraying of the herbicide "Milestone" which contains Aminipyralid? The LD50 for this product lists toxicity to bees as >100 micro-grams per bee. ...

Re: How fast should a mead ferment?

Tenbears, not sure what "DAP" means. Should I add something else?

It seems to be fermenting right along. I watch the bubbles every evening and since adding the strawberries, have counted the...
  15. Re: What triggers a hive to kick drones out?

I think there are probably a number of factors, weather, length of the day, etc. Queen status has an affect as well. When I see no drones around any of my hives except one, it usually means that...

Re: Absconded please help identify my bugs

Ahhh-hah! That's why there are no bees... :D
  17. Re: What triggers a hive to kick drones out?

We had a hive throw 'em all out in August, but then our August here was cold and a lot like October weather. I would think weather would be a big factor, but with the weather you stated, that's...
  18. Re: Letting bees in, without letting them out: how can I design this?

It's easier to just move them at night, or at least screen them in at night. You'll always lose a few, but that shouldn't affect the overall colony that much.

But to answer your question, just...
  19. Re: Mite bottom board counts and my experience with oav

How do you suppose someone with 10,000 hives handles that? They don't. If they have mites, they treat.

  21. Re: Mite bottom board counts and my experience with oav

    Bingo! :applause:

If you have mites, treat. It's pretty simple.

I've never seen someone make their dog stand over a grid to "count" fleas to determine if they should help the dog out or not...

Re: 2 feet or two miles....out of options

Why would you close the hive up for a while, when placing an obstruction in front of the door to trigger reorientation works just fine?

Re: How fast should a mead ferment?

The yeast is a Lalvin D47. I was looking for a sweeter mead and started with an SG of about 1.12.
