    Re: NUC QUESTION

Thanks to all for responding--Traveling with NUC's will not happen.

Don't want a chance to break any rules or kill them in the process to save a buck.

    Re: NUC QUESTION

Thanks for the advise. Carrier plugged into the tow hitch, behind the car, is a great idea--but my nice aluminum carrier is up in Maine and my wife's car does not have a hitch.

    **Would a top...

    Re: NUC QUESTION

    Thanks mtnmyke and ny12569
It’s in my nature to do things the hard way! Getting NUCS while in Northern Maine is not so easy

I don’t have to pay for the ones from central Florida.
    I don’t mind...

    NUC QUESTION

I will be traveling for 6 days from central Florida to Northern Maine, first week of May.

I would like to take 4 NUC'S with me and each NUC will have a queen.

My plan would be to house them...

    Re: Certified Kosher?

I found this on the internet and it seems plausible.

Kosher certification exists to ensure orthodox Jews who comply with Old Testament teachings that everything is “clean, fit, or proper as it...

    Re: Certified Kosher?

    Thanks, Loydd

My Rabbi does not want to buy honey--he wants to provide me with a certified piece of paperwork that we can advertise and label our honey as "certified kosher". I would have to sign...

    Re: Certified Kosher?

    Thank you Mike for responding.
Realistically, it makes sense that unfiltered, Raw honey could be considered kosher. Customers may not know about this though.
I guess that it comes down to two...

Re: Shipping bulk honey. Jars and barrels

You should not have any problems shipping by pallets. Over the last 3 years we have had only one issue and it may have been our fault by the way we packed it.

    Certified Kosher?

We sell various sizes of Raw Honey jars to supermarkets and natural food stores in the north east.
I'm seriously considering having our honey "certified kosher", and looking forward to initiating...
  12. Re: A question, "not for tree huggers" though.

"...Maple syrup as an example requires refrigeration after opening, It's moisture content is high enough to ferment over time if not." This is a very good point. May want to stay away from this.
  13. Re: A question, "not for tree huggers" though.

Added moisture is a concern for me, thats why I have been in the "tasting" mode for the last 9 months (and my belly show it), although the additives are supposed to be dried. When I eat the apricot...
  14. Re: A question, "not for tree huggers" though.

Thanks, I think you are absolutely correct.
  15. Re: A question, "not for tree huggers" though.

    Interesting mixture.
I'll try it. Each morning I have to have my honey and (chunky) peanut butter to get my engine running!
  16. A question, "not for tree huggers" though.

I was telling a “tree hugger purest friend” that I was thinking of using flavors to my honey for Farmers market sales, upon which he/she said that was sacrilegious of me!

    Well, I bought organic...

    Storage of Queens?

I hope this is not a stupid question!
I saw an experienced beekeeper store 200 queens in two boxes for more than a month, feeding liquid, by "finger dropper" each night (and maybe in the AM as...

    Re: Filling Machine or not?

I am snot sure how I would do that. But here is a guess. If we rely on a system that could do 63 per hr. we could get 500 jars in an 8 hr. day. So, for future growth, and ease of labor time, 125...

    Filling Machine or not?

I am thinking of buying a filling machine, label installer, and 72" (or there a-bouts) rotating table. We bottle 7 or 8 different sizes of honey jars from glass to plastic, 8 oz to 5 lb and do...
  22. Hello From Northern Maine--Helping Amish Neighbors to get started
