    JW I put my entrance reducer's up because like bush 84 stated "in case of dead bees pile up" could be caused by cold, small hive not being able to cool itself when too hot, pesticide exposure ect.

    I 2nd what squarepeg said. I have lost 4 out of 43 thus far this winter. 2 because of mites, 2 where weak nucs that I should of combined last fall.

    I use beetle traps with pickling lime in them. a few in each hive body. no need for oil or vinegar in traps to attract them, the bees will push them to the traps. I also have removed all plastic...

    just smoke your hands/wrist before and every so often as you work your hives. nitrile glovels are nice to help keep hands clean, but way too hot

    Pickling lime in shb traps. I use it instead of oil. works great! doesn't spoil or spill everywhere

    Feral colony for sure has been in a Portico since 1998, Homeowner will only allow me to capture swarms.

    Any thoughts on how to force them to swarm?

    I hear pollen substitutes produce short lived...
