First, I want to say how much I have enjoyed this discussion!!!
As for batteries, I got really excited about saline based batteries a few years ago.
    Far safer and non-polluting.
    Probably about...

    Re: requeen failure

In my life experience, nothing always works.
I think I might have mentioned that our success rate is around 98%. That's 2 queens lost out of every 100 which is too many.

    WOW, Dan!! Are we...

    Re: requeen failure

And this is the total basis for the problem you are facing.
Terrible advice. Almost guaranteed to fail.
Next time, remove the queen, install the new queen in the cage for candy release and leave...
  9. Re: Possible recommended OA vaporizer dosage changes

Another comment / question about "More is better" maybe one of you know the answer:
For a given vaporizer, I have a hunch that there is a MAXIMUM amount of crystals that can be sublimated in a given...
  10. Re: Possible recommended OA vaporizer dosage changes

    More is better.
The instructions say otherwise, but I disagree.
Also, The most important thing I have found is that regular treatments DURING ROBBING PERIODS, that is to say, when your strong...

    Re: Bit of a giggle

I love my fellow beekeepers here in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
I also love that certain ones of them keep their bees hundreds of miles from mine.......
  12. Re: Caution about opening hives in winter?

Not sure if you were replying to my comments...
ALL hives sent to almond pollination from ALL states have lids popped PRIOR to the long, expensive trip to California.
    Almonds are in California....
  13. Re: Caution about opening hives in winter?

It takes over two million hives from all over the country to pollinate almonds every year in California.
The bloom is typically around the 10th of February.
Every single one of those hives have...

    Re: UPS Lost my bees

That would have been my recommendation in the first place.
    Keep it local.
    Glenn won't "lose" your bees.
  15. Re: Shelter in place...unintended consequences

What is DISGUSTING is that this has happened before and apparently we didn't learn anything.
Will we learn ANYTHING this time?

    Re: Varroa in drone brood

The idea of "thresholds" is an obsolete concept.
With the ever increasing threat of multiple viral implications, varroa loads must be addressed regularly.

    >Should I be worried?<

    Only if you...

Re: How close to Row Crops can I be

    I have 2 suggestions:
    1) Read this carefully:

    2) Make friends with your neighbor farmer.
Let them know you aren't some radical, anti-everything...

    Last year sucked really bad!
  22. Re: First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

THAT is some really good news!
  23. Re: First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

My "Orland Area" grower reports that bloom is all over the place.
Some orchards are moving ahead rapidly, others at a more normal rate.
I've heard of full bloom mid week next week.

    Re: nuc sales agreement

Are you saying that there is something wrong with using purchased queens in the making up of nucs?
Just trying to understand your comment.
  25. Blue Diamond Almond Bloom Reports.

I have many friends that live in California and place hives in Almonds.
They get to monitor the bloom as it progresses.
For the rest of us, once the hives are worked, and in place we return to our...
