Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

    Thanks!

I am having a similar experience but no Spring feeding ( see another, ealirer reply I have). We are just starting to hit a warming trend with some 60 and just had a 70F day, rain again...

Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

GG "Keep an eye on them they could make you some cells fairly quick." Been checking a few hives at a time - nothing but I do have lots of bees.

Guessing - searching question for anyone: DO you...
  4. Re: 2, 3, 5, or 35 What are the least practical to get out of buying bees every year?

The more you have the faster you learn, IMO. But learn how to treat and survive a winter season, meaning no foraging for months on end, with a few hives - I bought 3 packages each year for two...
  5. Re: Hive Location (Backs to metal shed)

Read the various answers and realized I am different than most beekeepers :D I keep my hives on a 3'x8' platforms, two hives to a platform and maybe a nuc; 3-4 foot separation between hives. I have...

    Re: Bee club blues

I prefer "being a frugal, cranky contrarian beekeeper " It sounds better than "intolerant". I was never very "clubby". I have also noticed that with my beekeeping clothes on and my OAV mask, people...

Very Odd Happenings: This is the first time in 6 years I have noticed this but I am also much more aware. I had been watching at particularly large colony with very high RH values, 90%+, a the top...

    Re: New colony and Formic-Pro

ALternate method: Use a bottom screen board with a sticky insert. OAV and count the dead drop. Unfortunately this time of year is not very effective as the Varroa head for the larva pretty quick...

GG - correction! Pelase change who to "what to believe", like verifiable facts, tests that can reproduced. Example: tensile or tension testing has a load gauge, you can measure the extension of a...

    Re: "stinky" honey?

 I find my over-wintered Golden Rod + Japanese Knot weed in great demand by tea drinkers. It seems to "mature" like a red wine. I only use OAV for treating, no supers but my winter...

So is the comment " So we should not question those in authority? Are you kidding? " directed at me/ my comments? A new interpretation of "WHY". Me, the infamous Contrarian and now contrarian...

    Re: Gap between hive bodies

Bees may not go in or out but drafts are created. I have surprised how big an effect drafts have on internal hive temperature. I would correct the root problem sometime and tape it in the meantime.
