    Bee Weaveer Queens

I have ordered two of the Bee Weaver Queens for May delivery.
My plan is to do two splits into 5 frame boxes and to overwinter
in them. I am trying to see how close to the truth all the hype is....

Re: Home Made Swarm Traps: Any recommendations?

    Think 5 frame nuc but
    19-20 inches deep.53741
This is what I use I do attach a square door with screen
that I can cover the entrance with. I am also a firm believer
    in swarm commander....

    Re: Russian Queens

I will definitely have to keep an eye on them as far as build up. Some friends of mine have Russians are they aren't that defensive.

    Russian Queens

I am considering buying two pure bred Russian queens
and putting them in a three frame mini-nuc. I am thinking
with a smaller amount of bees starting out the Italians
will be more likely to accept...

    Re: Feral Bees???

That's what I have been doing. I figure the small cells might help with mites, but who knows. I am still treating when needed.

    Re: Feral Bees???

It's true about color and size. These are smaller and the comb they produce is very small cell. Also these were caught about 10 - 12 miles from houses or farms.

    Re: Feral Bees???

Actually the definition of feral I was talking about is "reverting back to a wild state". It takes some time for this to occur. A swarm going into a tree is still domesticated bees....just not in a...

    Feral Bees???

I was just reading on the forums here and someone mentioned feral bees . In reading ,it turns out that there were other bees around fairly close. Is it just me or is that not truly feral bees?
    I...

Sticky: Re: staple gun for supers

I use screws for the boxes. I use 1 1/2 staples for frames. No
glue at all never have seen the need. They stay together fine.
  11. Re: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times- wisdom and folly from 2019

Biggest lesson for my brother and I? Never order any bees from Mountain Sweet Honey. We
ordered from them, got a ship date then they contacted us saying they had to postpone the
    shipment. Fine,...

    Re: Still too many mites

He IS doing a great service. But is just research with no overall results yet. I mentioned the shop towell because it has not been approved. The timing of the brood cycle is important when using OA....

Randy is also the one who came up with Oxalic Acid and the shop towel, so I take his stuff with a grain of salt. I have read some of his research and I will stay with the Formic acid since it kills...

    Re: Still too many mites

I treat mine in the spring and in the fall. I don't try to time the treatments. I treat when the temps are within recommended range. I see no reason why the bee cycle would affect treatment as it...

    Re: Still too many mites

It is really odd to me some people rant about Formic pro and maqs and how bad their results were and others, myself included have no issues at all. Makes one wonder if people can read directions.

Re: I need to move my hives. When is best?

The foragers that return to find the hive moved MIGHT find the new location. More than likely they will not.

Re: I need to move my hives. When is best?

Why would you not use branches? Do you want to lose bees? You will lose several foragers anyway.

Re: Hands off Beekeeping.....for the most part.

I don't break my brood Chambers down. I may check the top super and see if another is needed. Other than that, I only go down to the brood chamber twice a year. Once in the spring and then once in...

I always buy Dadant budget frames. They are cheaper than anyone else's when bought in bulk and I have never had a problem with them. I don't know how they compare to the others as far as durability,...

    Formic Acid

I have a hive of feral bees that I caught in a swarm trap out the mountains around my job site. I had checked in on them after the Formic acid treatment. I saw no mites but I did notice several hive...
  24. Re: Advice on finding properties to place beehives?

Not trying to be a pain, but if you ran into a hateful landowner the could probably cause a fuss over the note in the mailbox. If I am not mistaken that is illegal if they wanted to cause you problems

That is really odd as I have just treated all mine with no issues. No major losses, no lost queens. I do not understand everyone talking about top ventilation. I can find no where in the Formic Pro...
