Re: Should you check on a walk away split?

I generally go into the hive at about 2 weeks to make sure they aren't hungry, out of food. If so I add a hiney frame, and pollen patty. Also, being very gentle, I look for a queen cell or newly...

    Re: Hive materials OSB?

Sob, is not the greatest, nor the worst. As stated below, advance does offer some advantages to sob. But, back to osb... prime it well, caulk it well, and put 3 coats on all inner and outer surfaces....

    Re: Free Mated Queen

    Very nice of you
Say, you may change your title to free mated queen in Westchester, n.y. area. You will get that queen gone, and to a good home fairly fast. Rich

Re: 3 Box split - is SidexSide OK?

The spacing between hives should not be any problem. I would add robber screens to all of them though.usually 24 hrs to 3 days is best time to add a new queen. Simply insert queen in her cage,...

  17. Re: Which "tooth pick" sticks do you use for foundationless comb?

I use paint stir sticks like linda. I put them in the top groove. I use latex caulk to secure them
3 drops work well. These run horizontally in top groove.
Also, after 1 round of brood, the wax...

    Re: after installation of bees

I'd say when you get 6 frames add more maybe 3 more at a time. As long as they are drawing comb, let em. Just don't give em more space than they can defend, or cover eggs at a time

Re: Newbie not sure how to proceed

I'd look to make sure you've got eggs on the frames, then look for the queen . You need to know if she's laying or viable. If yes to eggs, I'd find her. Do a split with her. And leave 2 of this nice...

  25. Re: Recommendations for a ventilated suit with a round veil?
