    Advice on treating 3 deeps

Which box would you dose from or split into 3 doses in each box? (3 deep hive, treating with the 110). Thanks

Is there a good way to cut out sections of bad comb(drone brood, old propolized pollen), that was made with plastic foundation? Thanks

Re: Did I screw it up?

Original 3 deep hive is still intact. Nurse bees and queen are hopefully in new box. I was planning on breaking up the original hive in 10 days, making sure each box has at leAst one queen cell.

Re: Did I screw it up?

Good idea. Also will filter out the drones too, I would think. I ended up with lots of drones in the new box.

Re: Did I screw it up?

I did use an empty box on top of the new one to act as a funnel. Seemed to work. Should I be feeding the new box? I don't want to set off robbing but if they need it I will deal with that if I...

Re: Did I screw it up?

I'm hoping the queen is in the new box. Because I never saw her I threw in the frame of brood, so they can make a cell if somehow i killed her or she is in the old hive. I guess the only way to...

Re: Did I screw it up?

My plan was to stop shaking frames as soon as I saw the queen, but I'm not very good at finding her so all the frames got shaken.

Re: Did I screw it up?

I shook them in the new box. Hoping the queen and nurse bees would end up in the new box. The new box is about 19 feet away from the 3 old boxes.

    Did I screw it up?

I won't be able to get new queens for about 2 weeks. One of my overwintered hives is 3 deeps. I went thru it today and it was filled wall to wall with brood and nectar. So I took another box, and...

Re: Disease risk from dipping boxes?

I admit I read that link quickly, but it appeared they were talking about dipping in paraffin. Everything I've read has to do with dipping in part beeswax part paraffin. So dipping in straight...

Re: Disease risk from dipping boxes?

Thanks. Wonder how long it needs to be kept over 320, i would think 10 minutes or so would be enough.

Re: Disease risk from dipping boxes?

Is there anything else to dip them in with no wax that is bee safe?

Re: Disease risk from dipping boxes?

Is 300 degrees got enough to kill spores? I would guess it would kill most other diseases, but I'm worried about afb specifically.

Re: Disease risk from dipping boxes?

I'm thinking more contamination coming from the wax. I would only be dipping new boxes. I don't have enough wax so I would have to buy it. I'm guessing it comes mixed from thousands of hives...

    Disease risk from dipping boxes?

Do you risk diseases from dipping boxes in wax? Or does the heating process sterilize the wax?

    Re: Want to make bees

Do patties get used even if they are bringing in natural pollen? Lots of pollen is coming in right now.

I'd rather stick to 10 frame equipment because that is what I have on hand. The divided...

I have a few hundred pounds of corn gluten meal. If I put it out in chicken feeders would it be beneficial to my bees? Thanks

    Re: Oav on drawn frames.

Also does oav kill mites in unsealed brood comb or only on bees themselves. I know it does not kill them in sealed brood.

    Re: Oav on drawn frames.

I only oav at night also. I got the impression from reading that a lot do it during the day. I would not use it as my only mite treatment, just wondering if it would be worth the time to do or not.

    Oav on drawn frames.

It seems a lot of people oav during the day when most of the bees are gone, so I'm assuming a lot of the mites are being killed when the bees are coming in contact on the combs. If so would it make...
