Re: Brazil: 500 million bees die in 3 months.

I suppose Chinese will repackage the honey in Brazilian warehouses and sell in the US as "organic honey".
Just another reason I have my own bees now days and glad doing it.
    :)

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

    GG, Exactly.
It was a commercial queen breeder talking to commercial honey producers.
    End of story.

IF a queen with me survives 5-7 years without chemicals and through all possible winters - I...

GG, your suggestion is a generally good idea.

    But....
Over the three summers now I learned my lesson against using the "zombies" as brood and bee resources.
I killed two good feral/TF queens...

Re: Brazil: 500 million bees die in 3 months.

This may actually affect availability of Brazilian honey in the US (and prices).
When I had no bees and used to buy organic honey - it was mostly all from Brazil.
    Economically speaking, maybe good...

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

These bees are awful at everything, but brood pumping.
I also pulled out blank frames - placed with them many weeks ago - not even started (I was hurting for frames elsewhere - so I was swearing...

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

I just watched a video presentation recently which stated (non-English; I would have posted other-wise):
    - it was a queen breeder and I assume he knew his stuff
    - the most prolific time in the...

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

    Yep, BBB.
The process of butchering started last night.
I will run them into ground and, in the process, hoping to extract something useful still of them.

On my way to work, was thinking how to...
  8. Re: Bees are omnivores and need the Amino Acids from microbes in bee bead.

    Sure.
    No impact.
    Keep on pickling..
    :)
  9. Re: Bees are omnivores and need the Amino Acids from microbes in bee bead.

Regardless of the labels (omnivores whatever) - this is a good find MSL.

I am actually more interested in the bee bread discussion in the study - it is useful.
    Another case that shows how...
  10. Re: Bees are omnivores and need the Amino Acids from microbes in bee bead.

    Of course, they are omnivores.
    They eat brood like crazy.

One should see how they jump onto the output of my brood-pressing operations.
I am unsure what they like more - honey-pressed outputs or...
  11. Re: Are TF BeeKeepers Stimulating Colonies to Apply Propolis Envelopes in Hives?

I actually watched this while lunching:

    Immediate comment:

    - it was stated how propolis is losing the bio-activity over time;
months of exposure to elements (especially years) will make...
  12. Re: Are TF BeeKeepers Stimulating Colonies to Apply Propolis Envelopes in Hives?

    Sorry falc for spooking you.
    Did not mean it.
Thanks for the resources, I will check them out anyway - never know.
    Surely others will check too.
  13. Re: Are TF BeeKeepers Stimulating Colonies to Apply Propolis Envelopes in Hives?

At present, the parasitic mite is by far is the most harmful bee pest.
This mite does not directly care of propolis much if at all.
If it did, the propolis generating bee races would be mite-free...

    Re: Why Treatment Free.

Well, let me append here too.

The bees are my food and medicine.
Food and medicine must be as clean as practically possible.
Not mixing artificial ingredients into my bees.
    Enough is enough.

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

My best queen this season exactly like this - exploded in April/May and had I to urgently split up (see my June splits above - these were nothing but counter-swarming).
Then in July I did another...

    Totally agree.
Even my survivors are not really TF.
Like I harp - have to have a population.
    Do I have a population?
    No.

    All good MSL.
Honestly, hard to keep in mind who has what and when...

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

Your point of "survived a winter TF" directed to where?
Not relevant to my zombies at all.

I have several lines, MSL, as I outlined several times.

Two lines are worthwhile and will be heading...

Re: Closing them in for a day

Rig up some temporary shade using tarps and such.

Loosely prop up some light fabric over the hive(s) - so the air still moves under the fabric - NOT tight.
I keep some old mattress covers and old...

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

Were these very clearly sick bees?
So sick you chose to destroy them?

I know mine are full of mites and are pretty much doomed.
But if I squeeze few frames of usable honey out of these and also...

Sticky: Re: GregV's Alternative way to keep (have?) bees.

    GG,

Pretty sure, these are just the kind of the bees these are (a product of abnormally early mating in later April with the early season imported almond drones).
    Seen this before in captured...
  23. Re: Are TF BeeKeepers Stimulating Colonies to Apply Propolis Envelopes in Hives?

All this propolis is making my bee work harder.

But I am letting the bees having at it anyway.
They want it, they can have it.

    Is it making them mite-resistant?
    No. Not that I...
  24. Re: Distinguishing between Carniolan and Caucasian honey bees

I don't know of Apis mellifera pomonella - don't care to google right now.
Speaking of the Uzbekistan/Kirghistan/Kazakhstan - the Caucasians were widely imported there during Soviet times.
    Now...
