    Re: Bee keeping suit reviews

I work bees full time during the summer months. Ultra Breeze brand for sure. I have both an Ultra Breeze jacket and a suit, I almost never wear the suit. Ultra Breeze jacket/veil and cargo pants...

    Re: Production Hives

Production hives are those intended to produce honey - the core of a honey production business. All of the other hives support the production hives: nucs, spares, comb builders, pollen collectors,...

    Re: new package bees aggression

Package bees and mated queens are like a box of chocolates . . . . especially if you're getting them from the south.

    Re: Old frames new foundation??

1 lb. lye to 10 gal water., heat to 190F, soak for 5 minutes, hose off frames in fresh water and let dry. Frames clean up looking like almost new. Always add the lye to water, never other way around.

These are the best IMO. The original.

Call them, they are made in US. Have worn them for years almost daily during season.

Re: Where to buy cheap sugar?

A beekeeper I know bought a tote of compromised sugar last year, but unknowingly, it also contained saccharine and aspartame. The source he bought it from didn't bother to mention the artificial...

    Re: saskatraz bees .......any experience????

I only bought a couple Saskatraz queens because it was all I could find early in the Spring last year. My impression was the strain developed to soak new beekeepers for a few extra dollars. I didn't...

    Re: Foul Brood

    In my opinion:

I definitely would not destroy hives infected with European foul brood. Remove infected brood frames and replace with new foundation, and feed. If you have access to it, use one...

    Re: Formic Pro

I've used them both - I like the Formic Pro better. Had good results from either Formic Pro or MAQS products. Formic Pro easier to separate the gel pads and apply. Formic Pro only marginally more...

    Re: OAV in early spring

Yes, been doing an OAV treatment in mid-March once the weather begins to break. Been doing this for a number of years, just before, or at the first pollen flow from the maples. The idea being that...

    Re: Mann Lake pf 120

I always ask myself when making a decision like this: Is my decision going to be based on what's easier for me, or what is better for the bees? From this point-of-view, I find that it is often...

    Re: Infared heat for hotroom

Yes. I have an infared heater installed from the ceiling pointed down on a 45 degree angle. It works OK. I stagger stack about 5-6 full supers ontop of an empty medium box and use a fan set on low to...

    Re: Hive Box Table

Find a one-piece, plastic play table made for children. They are UV stable, lightweight, and strong enough for 3-4 full supers. They are low to the ground - perfect height. I've seen them for...

Re: Too late to arrange & harvest honey?

I'm taking honey off this weekend, and do so every year at this time. It's easier when cold for all the above reasons and helps prevents robbing which can get going quick when there's a dearth as...

Re: Where and how to store drawn comb

SNL knows - this works for me too. Use Xentari - you can order from Amazon. Enough comes in one pouch to treat a whole bee club's super frames. Spray through a garden sprayer on both side of your...
  21. Re: How to decontaminate Nosema exposed wooden ware? Experienced responses please.

I use a 20-25% bleach to water solution and a stiff nylon brush to remove all of the built up fecal material. The rest of the wooden ware just gets wiped down with the bleach water. Everything then...
  22. Re: Just put in Apivar - in 45 days it will be wicked cold here and that is a problem

I put a round toothpick thru the hole at the top of the strips and hang them between the frames. Getting them out of the hive is easy enough. I hang two strips in the 10 frame bottom deep, and hang...
