Hey, thank you for the detailed response. I will definitely be building a few double screens to place nucs on top of parent hives so I can get an early jump on the season as early as possible. I assume there are no issues with placing two 4 frame nucs with purchased queens on top? Timing the splits with the main flows is going to be the tricky part I think, I'm still learning what to watch for.
I would love to hear your recommendations on where to get my hands on quality queens well adapted to the area. I think I would prefer to go with carneolans for their over wintering ability, but I would be open to your advise on the subject. I see that you run buckfast, the history of the breed is really interesting to me, how do they fare in our winters?
