Just checking in to see how the Bay Area beekeepers deal with this pest.
This year I am using apivar strips, and so far the results are great. Very easy to use also.
I am splitting my hives at least 1 time a year creating a brood break, screened bottom boards And trying to develop local survivor genetics. I started a few years ago with comercially bred bees. They all died with no treatments. I only have survivor bees cut out from barns and trees now. I am up to 21 hives no chemical treatments and will breed from the hives that survive.
I'm taking a break this year from MAQS and only will treat the hives that are in obvious trouble with DWV. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
