Not my hives but an acquaintance had two of his hives to swarm on 3/30/12. He was able to capture one of the two.

This is 5 weeks earlier than the first swarm from one of my hives last year!!!

Easter Swarm...had a swarm in my outyard today. Went to check my hives after dinner and the air was full of bees. They settled about 8 feet up in a spruce tree, cut the limb and laid on a sheet in front of a 5 frame nuc. All were inside within an hour or so.

Second swarm of the year in my outyard at about 3:00 pm. Queen couldn't fly and the 2# swarm ended up at the base of a chain-link fence post behind the hive. Would have been fairly easy had half the swarm and the queen not been under a piece of mine conveyor belt that is under the hives. First swarm that I've captured while laying on my side...better than 20 feet up a tree though! Finally found the queen and installed her in a 5-frame nuc with the swarm. Made up 7 splits from this yard on 4/14/12...hope I am ahead of them for a change.

First swarm for us this year. In my daughter's backyard in the middle of town in Marietta, OH. It was soccer ball sized (maybe 6lbs). The weather was 57 degrees, misty rain off/on all day with a little wind. It was in a mulberry tree approximately 8 to 9 ft off the ground.

Got a call early this morning about a basketball sized swarm located on a split rail fence in a neighborhood about 5 miles away. I wasn't able to go look at it until after work so my wife volunteered to go catch it for me!

26031 my top bar swarmed today around 1:30. I caught them and put them in a nuc. I think this swarm was a result of overfeeding heavy syrup on my part.

Rainy in the 70's

Same lady from 9/1 called and said they swarmed again. This time 4ft up on a holly tree. Bad timing, I'm at WVU. She said she would call me if they leave I might try to get home, grab a box, and go after them. Might let them get started then pinch queen and combine with the swarm from my top bar to boost it's numbers. That's if I get there in time. Minimum 2 1/2 hours (probably more like 3+) to get home, grab gear and get there. Maybe they'll hang around till morning.

Update: got there at 7:50. It was two small swarms hanging in the bottom branches of a holly tree. One a little bigger than a softball and the other softball size. I just broke the branch one was on and put it on a jester nuc box and then shook the other on on top of it. Not the best move maybe but these bees were doomed. I'll try to get something useful out of them like drawn comb and boosted numbers on that TB swarm nuc and maybe a queen for lure in the spring.

Unbelievable! She just called again. She said bigger than yesterday's swarm, bigger than a football. We'll see. Loading up gear now.

What is needed:

zip code, city or county
date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.

6/27 Sherrard, WV. This one is no fun to report it was out of one of mine. :( exactly at 1pm out of a nuc I made this spring with one of my 2 best queens. They had filled 5 over 5 and I just added a third box last week but it was undrawn plastic foundation and I guess they didn't use it or were already set on leaving. I'll check and see what's up in a few. Maybe break out the queen castle and get some of her off spring. They are balling about 30 feet up as I write. Man it hurts, it's sooo many bees. Come back! The branch they are in is hanging over a dense multiforal rose thicket so I don't really see a way to get them. If i got a rope around branch and shook they would just fall in in underbrush. Canopy to dense to get with bucket and pole, not that I even have one. Farewell blue hive queen you served me well. I have a swarm trap at my mom's house about a mile away, maybe I'll get lucky.

My niece texted me earlier today and said there was a swarm on a parking meter in Wheeling. I didn't get done with work until a little after 7 but my buddy was done earlier so I sent him for it. It was still there at 6, no one wants a September swarm. He said he wasn't sure how to get them off of the meter (newbee). He said he would stay there and lay "claim" to them until I got done. I got there around 7:20 gone by 7:25. Small swarm, queen was easy to spot. I put her and a handful of bees in the nuc box and told my friend goodbye. He said "what?!!". I explained that they would all walk in soon and then all he had to do was close the entrance and take them home. He just texted and said 99% went in the box.

I caught a swarm last year on June 23, 2017. I was all excited to catch my first swarm. Turned out to be out of my own hive. :lookout:
They landed on the ground. I put down a nuc with some lemongrass oil and they marched in. Then the crazy things spent the next three days swarming and reswarming, over and over, before finally settling in. I never did see a queen. They didn't make it through winter.
