Swarm caught yesterday 3/29 came out of one of my hives. Was walking to it to split it.
Weather has been in the mid 60's to low 70's night time temps have bee in the low 40's to upper 40's.
We have a fair amount of floral now.
They went onto a limb on a large hedge bush not in the swarm traps I have around.

Well I caught another swarm today not sure if it was one of my hives or a wild feral. I am starting to get pretty good at catching them but maybe not so good at preventing them, if it was one of mine. I will see in about a week when I inspect the hives. Southwest Mississippi and things are beginning to warm up.

Location: Carson, Mississippi
Weather: Clear blue skies, Low 90's
Date: Friday July 9th
Type Of Bees: Cordovan
Origin of swarm: Moving my hive off some old uneven concrete blocks to some new ones when it tipped over (no major/minor damage, just upset bees)
I went out a few hours later to check on the hive when my son noted a golf ball size swarm of bees in the old concrete block.
The next day I went out and noted the golf ball size swarm was now completely covering the bottom hole of the block
http://images.lowes.com/product/820779/820779802304.jpg

The bees stayed in the block all night and did not moved even after a hard rain that night guarding the new queen.
That night I put together a new super deep hive (10 frame but using 9)
and this morning my son picked up the block and shock it into the new hive.

Will post pics of the hive next week.

About a three pound swarm in Barton, Ala on Friday. Guy from work said they had been there for a day and a half. And found out somethin'. If you put frame of brood in the day after hiving a swarm, they're liable to leave on ya'.

Caught a very large swarm yesterday (3-4-15) about 15 feet up in a live oak tree, out toward the end of the limb. Taped a feed bucket to a long pipe, reached it up under them and bumped the limb they were on and they filled the bucket. Eased them over and down and into a waiting nuc box. Worked a lot better than I expected. Also missed a swarm two days earlier because I didnt have my box and when I returned about 30 min later, they were gone. I am about 15 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. Yesterday it was about 75 degrees, this morning cold and about 20-25 mph wind, heading into upper 20s tonight. My zip is 39574

Was going to look at the hives before going to the store and went out just as a large swarm was leaving the one hive I thought that wouldn't swarm. Got them into a deep. Don't know if the queen got past the excluder to leave with them. Grrr!

What is needed:

zip code, city or county
date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.

39090 Central Mississippi. Caught a football-sized swarm in a crape myrtle. Got a call yesterday (5/26/16) from an elderly man about a swarm in a small tree next to the mailbox. Caught and hived the swarm, went back to the location and set out the box I caught them in, along with the branch they had been on. Went back last night and got the rest of them.
