My Bees swarmed on August 24th 2008 in Northern Kentucky area.
First year bee keeping.
1. Lesson learned don't continue feeding a new hive all summer.

When I checked after the swarm they had almost completely filled up 2 large broad boxes. That's why they swarmed. ( I think )

2. Always have an extra hive ready to catch your swarm or someones elses.
Lucky I had an extra one and was able to catch them, also lucky I found them in a tree in my yard on a Sunday morning when I was home.

Have one since last night in a medium spruce tree. This morning it is raining and they are still there. Now I will have to rig up some things to maybe catch them. Have never done this. Wish I knew womeone near with a bee vacuum. Oh, well...Take care and have fun.

Hunstonville Ky...I gotta phone call last night that there was another swarm in this guys willow tree. I just got about 5 pounds saturday out of the willow tree and this morning i went back to the same willow tree and got 4 more pound! I got home installed them in the left side of my Observation Top Bar Hive and they started to draw comb right away. About an hour later i went to check on their progress and i had a softball size cluster on the corner of the swarm box which was tilted towards the entrance hole...So i helped them out by opening the top door for the ladies...So i guess thats true that the ladies wants someone to open the door for them all the time...hahaha

May 13th Union Ky. 41091 ( Northern Ky. )

How lucky can you be, another swarm call today. Left work early and got them. They had just left one tree went down the road about 200 yards and was able to find them. I started my 13th hive on May 13th, kind of odd.

I counted my days wrong on the other post. It has been 6 days now and I have caught 3 swarms. A great day.

Good luck to all.

4/15 5lb swarm from a bee tree, landed 35 feet up a pine tree. I was able to collect them with a little creative ladder work. Unfortunately I don't think I got the queen. The were very restless after hiving. Some started to cluster on the outside of a nuc next to it.

I am in Central Kentucky and split a couple of hives on April 2nd. On May 5, 6 and 7 the same small hive that I moved to my father's house 4 miles away had a swarm of been in a small tree about 50 yards from the single hive (yes, 3 swarms from the same hive - each one smaller than the first. There were no other bees (known) in the area. It was a nice warm spring 65-70 during the day and 50 at night.

Central KY, noticed at 10am today, it was cloudy low 60's, 3 lb swarm about 10 ft up in a pear tree. I've got 10 hives within 20-100 ft of the tree, so I'm going to assume it was from one of my hives. Climbed a ladder and while holding a nuc box I shook the bees in. I did capture the queen and she looks to be quite young as she did not have much size on her. The were still in the nuc box tonight.

Caught a previous swarm from another hive of mine on 4/30/12

4/11/15 at noon, sunny and clear
One of my backyard hives swarmed and I walked by as they were taking flight. Managed to quickly bait shrubs and tree limb where they were buzzing about with Bee Charm gel (wish I could find some more of that!). They landed on a tree trunk about 2 feet off the ground. I was watching them gather and putting a hive together while they clustered and settled. While I had my back turned they flew 25' up into the crown of the tree. This was within 40 minutes of the beginning of the swarm. I managed to retrieve them with the help of some of my beekeeping friends, an extension ladder and a swarm catching bucket on a long PVC extension!

Large swarm of unknown origin landed on hemlock tree trunk. Brushed into a box and hived with an entrance excluder. Bees were still unsettled today. I think they would leave if not for the excluder.

What is needed:

zip code, city or county
date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.

Tuesday evening ksp107 sent me a text of a swarm he caught not to far from my house. After ksp107 caught his swarm I thought it would be good idea to put a cardboard nuc box with some frames in the car. Well it paid off yesterday I got a text that said bees everywhere. Luckily I was about a mile away and got there to make an easy catch. Hopefully they like their new home. Time to get them swarm traps out.

40391, Clark County, 4/14/16, just after lunch time.

Beautiful sunny warm day in the 60's after a week of chilly and some rainy weather. From one of my own hives. Easy to catch in a small white pine tree. I'd been seeing swarm cells in different hives and had been doing some splits but some swarms still happen. Glad to catch them though.

Sheesh, this is 3rd swarm in 3 days. Glad to catch them but ready for them to stop. I was out of town but my wife texted me a picture of swarm in small white pine tree. I got home late last night so went out first thing this morning and put them in hive box and put on hive stand. Beautiful sunny weather yesterday and today, in the 70's.

New guy. Not sure if was mine that swarmed or not. Still activity at my box. Neighbor asked if my bees were ok. Still seen activity at my box and told him as far as I know they are good. Said he had a swarm about 3 feet up in his dodwood. Was not prepared but had an empty nuc that I got three weeks ago from my first bees. Hopefully they will stay. Photos soon. Time to assemble other hive!
