I have a small (1 - 1.5 lbs) swarm hanging 14 feet up a tree in my beeyard right now. I put out a swarm trap with lemon grass oil. If they move in, I'll combine with a nucleus I've been nursing along this summer. This has been a strange year.

Rookie mistake turns a 10 minute job into a 3 hour ordeal. Nice soccer ball sized swarm in the middle of a thin branch about 10' off the ground. I decide to snip the branch down to size. Box was not under swarm and they hit the ground and dispersed. had to wait for them to gather back up, shook them into box. Live and learn.

July 5th Swarm I Did a cut out at a home in April and all went well. Yesterday the home owner called and said the bees are back and so I went and sure enough there was the largest swarm to date clustered in the same corner as my previous cut out. fortunately they could not get in due to no holes. I swept the bees onto frames and placed into the box and saw the Queen on one of them,I left a small cluster on the house and the bees in the air thinking at dark they would all go in the box.unfortunately a double fistfull were still on the house ill have to go back today and finish the job.

I had 2 swarm from my hives in northeast Ga. I found one large swarm in wild cherry tree 20 feet from swarm trap. I was able to capture and box them before they used the trap. They were checking it out heavily. After another 2 hrs of working in bee yard, made 2 splits and pinched 1 poor queen. As i was leaving i looked at swarm trap and saw several hundred bees flying around. I thought they were from the previous swarm . I continued to watch and sure enough another swarm had moved into the trap. I worked in 2 hives and found 10 to 20 queen cells. I have five more to work today. The season is going strong here.

It must be swarm day here in NE Georgia This morning I had a call on a swarm in Winder after wich I went to my bee yard by the house and had a small swarm of my own. Then I delivered an observation hive I built to another beekeeper and while pointing out a large swarm in her backyard another swarm came out of another one of her hives. After dealing with those I went to my Bethlehem yard and you know it another swarm. Ok it keeps going now its 4pm and i get a call on another swarm by the time I got there they were gone. So back to the house and while supper is cooking I go the the yard by my house to check on the earlier swarm i caught. and there was another small one out of one of my nucs. I need to build more equipment:banana:

Missed a swarm from one of my hives yesterday. My wife called me at work as she was watching. She said that they formed a column from the hive up 30 ft., then took off. She followed as far as she could, but couldn't keep up. I looked for them when I got home, to no avail.

23 March 2012. Glennville, GA 30427. 1:00 PM. 90 degrees F.
Got a swarm call from the police chief about 1:00 yesterday, but I was working over an hour away at the time. I called my wife and asked if she wanted to catch her first swarm, and she agreed. I gave her a list of everything she needed to get the job done, and gave her a few tips on how to go about it. The swarm was covering a newly place 10 gal. flower pot filled with fresh flowers at the local florist shop. She brushed and scooped all that she could, and ended up cutting the plants and putting bees and all in the box. As she was working, a journalist for the local paper showed up to cover the story for next week's edition.
Altogether, she experienced her first swarm removal, will be in the paper next week, got a new hive of bees, and through the newspaper article, will get some free advertisement for our new business. Can't beat that with a stick!

bugman, looks like quitman is just north of the panhandle, and that swarming is a matter of weeks from starting up here. it makes sense based on local blooms and current colony dynamics. better get my traps ready. thanks for the report.
My neighbor had one yesterday afternoon 3/24/15, around 80 degrees F. This one was In Hahira Ga. Also one moved into a tree at work, every year they move in this tree in the spring and abandon it in late summer. Then they just reappear out of nowhere.

Same hive of Russian hybrids swarmed twice in one week. The first time was 4/21, when they settled on my chain link fence. I was able to hive these. The second swarm, which I witnessed leaving the hive, occurred on 4/26. This second swarm gathered in the top of a 50 foot oak tree. I threw a cord on top, shook them loose, but then they disappeared. Where they went, I still don't know.

5/14/15 large swarm moved into my bait hive (top entrance, 2 warre boxes with an old comb in each box in the middle, lemongrass oil and empty bars in the top box only.) They came in late afternoon, it was cloudy, windy and hot out. Lots of activity all day today! I also had calls for a swarm in Marietta, one in Cumming in the eaves of a house and one in Snellville, but I couldn't make it out to collect them due to a family emergency. :( Hopefully someone else was able to!

softball sized way up in tree,
Not worth the trouble of cutting the tree down, if they want to live they will move to a empty hive body full of frames that's 15 yards away.
So far they haven't moved so they are crazy if they do then that's another matter...

What is needed:

zip code, city or county
date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.
