Got a large swarm from my brothers hive on March 21st, he had been feeding them and adding some frames but missed the queen cells.

03-27-2008, 09:09 PM
Got another swarm today, not big one but enough to start. Came from a house that has a hive in it we are going to trap out. My cousin came down to check his hives and found two swarms, was only able to get one, the other was already leaving when he found it, both were from his hives.

Have two hives that are ready to swarm.

Was informed by caller and mother they had been there about five days. Man were they hungry.

Swarm moved into a bait box on my front porch. Not sure how big yet because I haven't opened it up. Box has only been there a few days. This is the second swarm I've caught off the porch. There must be an unmaintained hive nearby, as all my hives are new this year and not showing any signs of swarming.

Got a call about a swarm that had moved into a drainage pipe at a school. I don't have a bee vac and I think that is the only way they'll get them out. The pipe runs down behind the brick so there is no way to take it apart and get them out. Not sure what happened to them.

Caught 2 swarms 8-17-2012, they were very samll hope they have time to build up before winter, which hear in Central Ar is several months away and have soy beans flowring not far from my yard.

09-07-2012, 07:14 PM
Caught my third swarm in less then a month yesterday. It was about 2 feet off the ground and went in the box with one shake of the tree branch. Hope they make it this late in the season. The last swarm I caught was overwhelm by SHB and left. My other hives are strong and keep the SHB at bay. Checked SBB oil trap in other hives and found almost 100 dead SHB in a week.

Caught 2 swarms at 36272 Piedmont, Ala. One the first weekend in March and the second the last weekend in March. The first swarm weighed about 6 to 7 lbs. The last about 5 lbs. Both swarms are working real well.

Got my first swarm call of the year yesterday April 5th. In Prairie Grove AR I am guessing zone 6b as that is what zone I am in 45 min. away. The bees had landed on a sapling the day before and stayed there through what will hopefully be our last frost for the season and probably half of them froze.

Fayetteville AR 72701 I attempted to capture a swarm. When I got up to them they were all buzzing pretty loud and when I brushed them into my box they took for the sky. 15 minutes later there were only maybe five bees in the box. They had not returned to the limb either. But, there was a lot of activity by what the home owner had pointed out was a bee tree. So, I don't know if they decided to head back to the original tree or if I got there just as they had decided to take off for wherever they were going.

Searcy, Arkansas (North Central) 11-2-2013 got a call about 4:00PM about a swarm on a redbud tree in Searcy.
I loaded up and totally thought it would turn out to be a wasp nest but when I arrived low and behold there was a cluster of honey bees.
I used a Bee Vac and left them in the cage that night in my house.
Next day I put them in a 6 frame hive and gave them a baggie of sugar syrup 2-1 with pro health.
Next day I merged them with another 6 frame hive and now they are doing great.
It's awfully late in the year but there they were.
I will take it they were feral bees.
Weather was 43 degrees F, clear, no wind.

It had turned cold and looked like rain. Probably upper 40's after being in the upper 60's. Removed them from a trellis in a garden. They were cold and lethargic till I got them home.

Swarm caught today in Siloam Springs, AR (72761). Came from a bee tree in my neighbor's yard. Heard them buzzing from about fifty feet away and got their in time to watch the cluster form on a branch about 10' off the ground. Snipped the branch and hived them - hoping they stick around!!

Warm and sunny weekend. Bee's went down a vent pipe after the home owner smoked them off a pole. Still not sure why he smoked them???

Siloam Springs, AR 72761

Warm day in the mid 70s with rain early and a mix of clouds and sun in the afternoon.
Watched one of my (3) hives send out a swarm at about 11:30 AM...which then landed at the highest point in my entire yard :(
Top of an old oak tree about 40'-50' up...couldn't get them, they flew away and found a new home.

04-19-2015, 01:50 PM
4/19 Siloam Springs, AR 72761

Another of my hives swarmed to almost the exact same spot 40-50' high in the trees.

No way I can get them out, can only hope they might come down lower for more shelter in the current rainstorm.

Earlier today , here in Stone County Arkansas . Stepped outside to check on some seedling in my hot box just as they were getting a good start . Bees now hived in a new box I had on hand for a split next month ... I'm seeing orientation behavior , hope that means they'll stay .

What is needed:

zip code, city or county
date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.

03-27-2016, 06:17 PM
Sunny and between 65-70F. 99% sure the swarm came from one of my hives. Didn't see it leave the hive but it was settled on a branch less than 20' from the entrance to two of my hives. Fairly small, a little smaller than a football I'd say. This is the earliest swarm I've ever heard of in this area...previously, the earliest I knew of was April 10th. Hived them and hoping they'll replace the only hive I lost over the winter!

04-09-2016, 09:01 PM
Southern Scott Co.04-07-2016 The day before yesterday, as I was watching my hives, a swarm approached from the West. I followed them for about 50 yards until the going got rough at an overgrown fence-line. They flew up and over and that was all she wrote. The wind was blowing so hard I did not here them approach. I looked over to see how low the sun was getting and there they were.
I've looked for them a couple of times, but no luck. Maybe the reason they moved so quickly and didn't land was because they had been in a tree somewhere near and were headed to a new home. I hate to see bees flying away.

Got two calls on Friday April 8th for Springdale in Washington County. For the first call, after a few probing questions I found out the guy had already sprayed the swarm with insecticides. I told him that was a deal breaker and that I wouldnt be coming to help. For the second call, I picked up the my biggest swarm yet, halfway filled a paper box. Its really early to be getting swarm calls for this area. My first from last year was the 29th of April.

04-11-2016, 09:11 PM
Cool and cloudy with significant thunderstorms last night. Small to medium swarm and the homeowner said they had been on the branch for a couple of days before he called. Easy pick up, just snipped a couple small branches at 4' off the ground and shook them into the hive. With the warm weather, I suspect the bulk of swarme season will be a few weeks ahead of schedule this year...

I caught a swarm near my hives today. I didn't see them come from one of my hives, but they probably did.

Got a call from Monticello Arkansas late this afternoon about a swarm. Had to drive 45 miles to get there but it was well worth it. About a 5 pound swarm.

Live outside of Little Rock caught 5 in the last 3 days, 3 in swarm traps and 2 on trees, 4 of them were very nice primary swarms. I bet there will be more before the week is up.

04/18/19 One of my hives swarmed. Hive was swarm I collected exactly 1 year ago to the day.

One of my resource hives that I was going to split, just as soon as I could get around to it, swarmed. I guess the bees decided I had time yesterday. I did, however, catch it.

So far, none of the hives with the Snelgrove boards on them have swarmed.
