Apr 8 Aspen trees started blooming, noticed pollen for the first time.
Apr 9 saw some yellow pollen coming in, so the crocus must have started blooming.
Apr 10 first poplar trees starting to bloom.
Maples starting to bud, and tulips staring to push through the dirt

What is needed:

•zip code, city or county
•date when the plant first bloomed
•name of the plant
•comments - example: if it was the end of the bloom just add that to the comments

Brazeau County, near Drayton Valley, Alberta
Bees started bringing in bright yellow pollen on March 29th.
Walked back in the bush and the aspens are blooming and some pussy willows are out.
Very early for West central AB.
The first snowdrops (Gallanthus sp.) are blooming now too.

First dandelion today!

Wow. Your dandelions are tough! How long since last frost?

BDT123
04-11-2017, 05:32 PM
Frost almost every night! This one is on the south side of the house, but lots of 'greens' showing in the road easements. Coming fast.
Yes, everything up here is tough! Or it doesn't make it, lol.
We have more snow coming for Easter, but all the crocus and winter aconite are up and most of the snowdrops (Gallanthus) are blooming. Sweet!
As in previous post, bees are working mostly willow (Salix) and Aspen (Populous tremuloides)
AR1 - I used to kill dandelions, til I had bees! Now I think I don't want a lawn, maybe a meadow instead.

Chionadoxa blooming. High today was +6C, about 43F. First buds on the Winter aconites, Eranthis hyemalis. Showing yellow, anyway.
The Gallanthus, Snowdrops, have toughed out 3 snowfalls since they started blooming. Tough little beggars.
The species crocus have also done the same. Amazing.
Prairie crocus, Anemone pulsatilla, are bursting up, all covered in fur! Should bloom in a week. Will post when they do!

Sidenote - the Hawthorns are covered with every kind of bee and wasp. Black hornets, honeys, bumbles, and a lot of small bees I don't know. Hornets are gathering pollen it looks like, not molesting the bees! Didn't know they did that. Cool seeing so many hymenoptera on the same food source. I better plant more!
