February 26 and here in SE PA we have Silver Maple (http://home.comcast.net/~pxbacher/pix/Maple_Bloom_2006_A.jpg) blooming in the back yard! According to my records, last year the maples were in full bloom April 2, so they sure seem early! Here's another shot showing the upper part of the tree (http://home.comcast.net/~pxbacher/pix/Maple_Bloom_2006_B.jpg).

PA Pete,

Does it seem like spring will be early this year? Even the silver and red maples up here are pretty heavily budding. I thought last year was an early Spring for PA, but this year seems at least 3-4 weeks ahead to me.

The Golden Rod just started to bloom on 7/30 in NE PA. However, 5 days later, I have yet to see one bee on the plants. They
are on my Plantain weeds. Today, I stopped at a new garden shop.
While perusing, I noticed many, many honey bees on plants named "Mountain Mint." I purchased 3 plants
and will add them to the Russian Sage area.
