Hello Friends,

Researching the history of the beekeeping merit badge.

I am currently looking for records which indicate how
many beekeeping badges were awarded each year.

I have records from the creation of the badge in 1911
up until 1924, but I still need information from 1925 to
1995 when the badge was discontinued.

This can be found in the:
'Annual Report of the Boy Scouts of America'
under the title:
'Comparative merit-badge table...'

But I do not have access to this information beyond
1924

If you would happen to have access to this report
for the years following 1924 please contact me.

Also looking for clear images of the beekeeping
merit badge pamphlets.

Also looking for a photo of the extremely rare badge
which covers the period: 1937-1938 which was at that
time titled ''Bee Keeping'

Hoping to complete soon and publish the article on the
Boy Scouts of America Anniversary, February 8

Also looking to explain why a spike in beekeeping merit
badges occurred during 1914 and from 1921 and several
years after. Perhaps WWI, sugar rations, wax for the
war effort? I do not know as of yet...

Very Best Regards
Joe

There were 66 Merit badges for beekeeping awarded during 1920.
This spiked in 1921 to 147 and 1922 - 199; 1923 - 207; 1924 - 190

National alcohol prohibition began in January of 1920. One may
entertain the possibility that the need for a sweetener to make
moonshine in the basement still may have inspired a few parents
to encourage their son to obtain a bee keeping merit badge.

Pictures of four versions of the bee keeping and beekeeping badges plus the beefarming badge:
http://www.scouters.us/mb2.php

From 1911-1914 it was "beefarming"

The pamphlet is here, but I would NOT download it as it wants to install some software, that I would not trust. But you can flip through it here:
