Schmidt and Thoenes (1990) obtained a lognormal pattern for honey bee swarm relocation when they had target hives located at discrete distances from the parent colony (data from text of Schmidt and Thoenes, 1990, p. 810). By coincidence, their swarm hives were located at the same distances from the parent colony as were the test stations used in the mechanical bee experiments (Fig. 4).
