Figure 2. In experiments run by Gould et al. (1970:table 4), a third of the recruited bees ended up at a station in a direction opposite to that supposedly indicated by the waggle dance maneuver. Moreover, most search times differed little for bees that ended up at either of the two stations. The outgoing flight times for experienced bees would have been less than 20 seconds in the experiments they conducted (Wenner, 1963).
