What are some good beekeeping books out there that you all would recommend?

I was told to get the ( Hive and the honeybee) , I haven't read it yet but a very seasoned beekeeper said he wished someone would have told him about it when he was starting out. I didn't get the authors name , maybe someone here is familiar with the book , I did a search and came up with more than one author.

I had both of Richard Bonney's books, "Beekeeping, A Practical Guide" and "Hive Management" when I started. I know things have changed a lot since then, but they are still useful. They had lots of information with out being overwhelming.
You can order my new book if you want to build your own stuff. It should be out in the next couple of weeks.

I second the recommendation of Michael Bush's book and his web site bushfarms.com/bees.
He also hosts http://www.bushfarms.com/huber.htm which is a fun read

http://www.beesource.com/point-of-view/ed-dee-lusby/ has some good reading

The Beekeeper's Handbook by Sammataro, Avitabile and Caron is a good beginner to intermediate read.

http://scientificbeekeeping.com/ Randy Oliver's web site has many useful pages.

Dummies is pretty conventional with their recommendations for medication (we're treatment free ourselves).

If you've read the above cover-to-cover, and a couple of other books too, cover-to-cover, and watched a bunch of youtube beekeeping videos, you'll be ready to declare your beekeeping style.

Decide what kind of beekeeper you want to be (your personal philosophy of beekeeping), and focus your effort on getting there. Your decision will influence what you embrace, and what you discard from your readings. If you don't you'll often be confused, or even make mistakes.

Good luck...

There are many good books on bees. The hive and honey bee it is a collaborative effort by many experts and published by Dandant & son a good reference and read for any beekeeper. I cannot totally condemn any. However I would be on the cautious side with beekeeping for dummies. As some of the information is questionable
