I want to replace a few old frames in the brood nest. The frames have both brood and stores. I do not run QEs but do have one. Should I put on the QE and move the frames I want to replace above it? If I don't put on the QE and move them up, will they expand the brood nest up into the top super (which is all honey at this time). Should I push the frames together in the brood nest and add a frame in position 1 or 10, or just put a new frame in where the old one was?
Thanks for any advice.
Langs, 5 mediums high.
I'd probably just move them up and put them on the outside positions. Hopefully the nurse bees stay with the brood and the queen shouldn't be too interested in moving up there with them on the outsides.
That makes sense. What about the frame space in the brood nest? Push them together and put the replacement on the outside or just put a new frame in the slot? The lowest overnight temp for the next couple of months will most likely be the mid 40s
Never mind. I think I found my answer in an older thread.
