Default Hi from PA and a Bird Feeder Question

    Hello All,
I'm not sure where to post this....
I just put up my first bird feeder about two weeks ago. I live in Southeastern PA and today I noticed a whole lot of bees swarming the feeder and birds trying to land on the perches, but then flying away. I don't know much about bees so I thought I would post here to see if any of the bee people could help me...
Will the bees leave? Will the birds come back? Is there anything I need to do?
I was really getting into watching all the different types of birds come to eat.
Thanks so much for any advice you can provide.

I've read about bees gathering dust from bird feeders in the spring but not when there is pollen and nectar available. They usually stop once pollen is available. The birds should come back. Maybe you need to wash/clean the feeder real good--maybe there is something from the manufacturing process (I'm assuming you bought the feeder) that is attracting the bees.

This bird feeder....is it filled with seed or sugar water such as when feeding hummingbirds?
If seed, than as earlier poster said...it's a temporary feeding by the bees on the seed dust.
If it's the red sugar water....the bees will swarm it and keep the birds away.

    Hi,
Thanks for the responses. Yes, I bought the bird feeder from our local store and had it up for about 10 days and the birds came with no bees. It's just regular bird seed, nothing for humming birds. I'm hoping with today's rain, it will have made the dust go away or whatever they were interested in.
    Thanks again
