    Question Lemon Grass Oil..How often to refresh?

    Hey Hey Hey, Happy Lent

    Question....how often do I need to replenish the q-tip of lemon grass oil I have in my hives and swarm boxes?

    Thanks in advance for your suggestions:}

    Good for the main swarming season last about 2 months in our area. Why are you putting in your hives?

    I had the same question in the swarms forum so interested too... I just used Q-tip too and after 3 weeks plus rain the traffics to traps has stopped so I re-applied yesterday only to the opening...

    Do you put the qtip in a baggy or just drop it in?

    I am by no means a expert, but what I do is every week or so I check the 2 traps at my house. All I do is smell the q-tip. If I still smell LMO then I just leave it alone. Most times after 3-4 weeks I dip it in the LMO again and return to the trap. Then I go do the same in the 3 other traps that are not at my house. I can not say if that is the best way, just the way I do it. I just lay the q-tip across the top frame bars, no plastic bag. It should start getting fun soon, swarm season is getting closer.

    I check swarm traps about every two weeks during season, at that time I add two drops in the entrance. Works well for me.

    I agree I think every 2 to 3 weeks Added to the outside makes sense... I think that is what brings the scouts....

    Only once for me. The boxes are still attractive the next year. A few drops inside the entrance.

    I've never gotten around to it. I theory it seems like a nice idea...

    I suggest you melt a pile of propolis and LGO inside the entrance of those new hives with a heat gun.
