    Default Yellow jacket mayhem

Yellow jackets are horrible lately in my yard.
I set up a couple different types of traps. The traps catch YJs but there are hundreds.

My hives are handling it Okay but I'm getting sick of it. They are constantly working over the entrances.

Does anyone have any suggestions to quickly find their hive/hives?
Can I "bee line" them? How?
Is there a better way to deal with them all at once?

I was never any good at beelining, must be my ADD lol.
You watch the yj's take off and start following the direction. The bummer is, bees are easier as they're either in a tree or building, you've got to add ground nests for hornets too, sometimes they build those nests in tall planting and are very hard to find. What are you using for traps?

I have one commercial trap and a couple homemade. They catch a bunch but not enough to make them worth the trouble.

just upgrade the size of the trap. Think rubbermaid trashcan instead of a little trap. Bees don't like vinegar, but the yj do. Set it up on a commercial scale.

Robber screens is a good idea too. Plus could help prevent your queen from being requeened by an Africanized hive.

My bees love vinegar, it is in the sugar water I give them.

I've yet to find anything they prefer more than harassing my hives!
Took a walk but it was too cold and overcast. Maybe I can find them tomorrow it's suppose to be 70ish and sunny

Keep your traps going. What I've found here myself, was that the next year after trapping, the yellow jackets are much less of a problem. Maybe it was a coincidence, but that's how it seemed to work for me.

Find the nest and burn it out of the ground with diesel fuel, especially if you have kids. Years ago I "found" a yellow jackets nest. Now I carry an EpiPen with me because my throat swells. Taking 300+ stings at once sucks.
