Guess I will have to find that one Michael P. Sounds very interesting. What is Ms. Hodges' discipline with Apis Mellifera; biologist, entomologist, famous experienced beekeeper, etc?

Also, Thank you jmgi. I will need to add the 'Honeybee Democracy" to my collection as well.
    No one famous.

Michael Palmer's got some good friends...1st editions of vintage books need a bit more seeking out than reprints or republications. As for me, I got a frame perch from my family. My second son thought it might keep the bees from crawling up his ankles (he'd experienced this when I put combs by the side of the hive stand). I'm very grateful for his thoughtfulness. It's the sort of thing I'd have never bought for myself, and which I'm looking forward to using with him.

    A Mr. Pea Sheller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/121189977527?lpid=82

I grew a bunch of cowpeas this year, and I got really tired of shelling them. Hope this little contraption works.

Also, my Mom bought me a nice set of binoculars. That's also not beekeeping related, but I can now see if the bees are flying from the house.

So, did anyone else buy a present for themselves?

A Year Among the Bees, C.C. Miller. A book I've been looking for for several years. Already have 40 years and 50 years, but this one never seems to come up for sale.

Like Dan & Barry, An open plantar fasciotomy, but I also got one of those Michael Palmer NUC setups from BetterBee. Will be using it as a template to make some more.

Santa gave me one of those Stihl 200 mph backpack blowers. Man it makes quick work of leaves. I'll try it on the bee supers next summer but I suspect it'll rip the caps right off the comb.

If the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise, our real Christmas will begin next Saturday when, for the first time, all our children and grandchildren will be together for the first time ever. I can't think of anything better. (Although a Kubota ranks right up there... )

Won't you be giving everyone a ride in the Kubota? Some on the seat, and some in the bucket?

I got myself one of these, ordered yesterday. Hope they are as cool as they look. I've been using a housekeeping products container but I have to carry smoker separate, and is not nearly as nice looking as this tool box:
