If not for a dog, for whom would you make the dog bone?

Well, you are right. Dog bones are for dogs. I want a recipe that is human safe-no bone meal. I think this recipe sounds good. The ingredients are 1/2 cup of powdered milk, 3/4 cup water, 1/3 cup soft butter, 1 egg, and 3 cups wheat flour. Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch. Cut out bones and bake for 50 minutes at 325 degrees. I think I will also add honey -maybe 1/4 cup of honey or more and some peanut butter. The dog really likes honey. The dog is a honey thief. Thank-you for the link snl.

The dog bones were a success. I changed the recipe. I added between 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup of honey. I added some oatmeal about 1 cup and peanut butter (1 Tablespoon). I decreased the water to 1/2 cup and decreased the whole wheat flour to about 2 1/2 cups. No need to chill the dough -just roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut. I used a biscuit cutter. I baked at 325 degrees for 55 minutes. The dog loved them.
