Default I got my first Social Security check this week!!!

Ran the math...and figured out that it was best for me to take it at age 62 at a discounted rate rather than wait till the full retirement age. Also, if I wish at full retirement for SS, I can return all I collected and receive SS at the higher rate. I'm also thinking that if I waited to collect and unfortunately died in the interim all my contributions .......... were GONE!

Now I can buy more bee equipment!

For those of you still contributing to SS, I appreciate all your hard work to keep those checks flowing to ..........me!!

    Thanks again,

    Larry

    ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. Good one Charlie.

Larry, why don't do like NY City Mayor Bloomberg did w/ all of his paychecks? He framed them and never cashed them.

Congratulations, you are still getting older.

Unfortunately (for me) Mayor Bloomberg has got just a wee bit more than I and can afford not to cash his checks. Me, I need to buy more beekeeping equipment!

Thanks for the congrats & yes getting older.......... it seems like only yesterday when I was a kid playing basketball with my brothers in the back yard. My how time flies!

And did you think the other scenario through where you live to an old age and run out of funds?

I took mine 5 years early too; figured with all you baby boomers jumping on the band wagon all at once that the fund might dry up pretty quick! Get it while the gettin's good!

Yup, sure did! Never did count on SS to live, it's just a bonus. If I waited till I was 66 to draw, it would take me to age 77 to make up for what I didn't draw at age 62, that's not including invested dividends/interest earned on it. Again, you wait, you die, it's gone. Each one of us has a different scenario. You need to do the math and make sure you know what you're doing. If you can't figure it out, HIRE someone who will. It's worth it.

Also again, if at age 66 I'm doing pretty good & have a great physical, I can pay everything back that I took from age 62 and collect at age 66 as if I began drawing it at age 66. Will I do so? Probably not, but who knows. And who is not saying!

Nice to have lived long enough to join the "club."

    Thanks!

Yeah, I just did, and it's worth seeing the difference between drawing early verses waiting till 70 to draw. The line on the graph starts dropping significantly many years earlier than if you wait just five more years (70) to draw. Perhaps you're the one that needs to HIRE someone? My elders have lived well into their 90's, so I take that into account.

Of course this is all dependent on how much money you want to be living on per year

Ah, the name is Barry, and being the first also puts you in front of the line for underground sleeping quarters. I don't mind the back of the line.

I plan to follow in the footsteps of my fellow Oregon Commercial beekeepers and work until I drop!
Isn't there some level of income limit if you are drawing socialzed security?
    FORGET IT!
Remember the old country tune: Working Mans Blues:

"Well you know it's hard just getting by with nine kids and a wife,
I've been a working man **** near all my life,
    And I'll be working...
As long as I have two hands fit to use.
And I'll drink a little beer in the tavern.
And sing these working man's blues.

    Chorus:
Well HEY, HEY working man, working man like me,
I ain't ever been on welfare, that's one place I wont see,
    I'll be workin,
As long as I have two hands fit to use!
    etc...........
I have exactly ONE hive more than you.
That makes my opinion beyond question.

Lots of good comes from working until you can't. That's my plan as well. Not sure about the limit of income.

    Sorry.
I waas WAY off on the lyrics.
That is the way we used to sing it.
    Here is the real thing
    Merle Haggard:

It's a big job just gettin' by with nine kids and a wife
I been a workin' man dang near all my life
I'll be working long as my two hands are fit to use
I'll drink my beer in a tavern,
Sing a little bit of these working man blues

I keep my nose on the grindstone, I work hard every day
Might get a little tired on the weekend, after I draw my pay
But I'll go back workin, come Monday morning I'm right back with the crew
I'll drink a little beer that evening,
Sing a little bit of these working man blues

Hey hey, the working man, the working man like me
    I ain't never been on welfare, that's one place I won't be
Cause I'll be working long as my two hands are fit to use
I drink a little beer in a tavern
Sing a little bit of these working man blues

Sometimes I think about leaving, do a little bummin around
I wanna throw my bills out the window catch a train to another town
But I go back working I gotta buy my kids a brand new pair of shoes
Yeah drink a little beer in a tavern,
Cry a little bit of these working man blues

Hey hey, the working man, the working man like me
    I ain't never been on welfare, that's one place I won't be
Cause I'll be working long as my two hands are fit to use
I drink a little beer in a tavern
Sing a little bit of these working man blues
