    Ha!

I just sent you a PM before I saw this.

is one way to do it. Be sure to copy/paste the entire line. Test it with "Preview".

You can look up BBCode use by clicking the link at the very bottom of this forum page.

At the same page where you specify your signature, check the settings shown below the signature input area. Specifically, look for:

    Allow HTML BB Code

    Mine is set to "Yes"

If yours is "No", that may be the problem.

The code in your signature looks correct to me.

An alternate you can try is:

    [URL]www.oliverfranklandscapia.com[/URL]

Watch carefully when you click SAVE on the signature page. If you get any error messages, those need to be fixed or it won't work properly.

If you get error messages, click the leftmost button on the toolbar "Switch Editor to Source Mode" to show ALL codes. If you see codes other than URL and /URL, then that is likely the problem.
Sometimes I get COLOR and /COLOR codes. Those are not allowed in signatures and must be removed.

I will leave my test signature line as it is til morning, then revert back to my normal one.

Cristian - FYI, my examples above are using the NOPARSE and /NOPARSE codes to force th display of the URL codes. Ollie, ignore this part of the message.

Hyperlink? What's a hyperlink? I looked into this Thread because I saw odfrank's name on it.

In your SIG line... if you click the quote.... you go to the UU Church in Canton..... He wants to know how you did that. Go ahead... tell him! Oh..... must be one of those advanced techie things.... right? LOL

By accident actually. When I went to change my signature, which previously had the www.uucantonny.org link, it still does, some how. Don't ask me to explain it.

OK, here is a short explanation in how this works.

    [URL="http://www.oliverfranklandscapia.com"]www.oliverfranklandscapia.com[/URL]

There are two parts to the code above. The second part, outside the quotes, is what will be displayed in the part visible to the world. The first part, inside the quotes, is the URL (webpage) that will be actually linked to when the visible part is clicked. In the example above, they appear as the same thing. In Mark's case, he has modified the part outside the quotes to be a Steinbeck quote, but the URL is still the URL of his church homepage.

Here is the code that would do something similar to Ollie's signature:

    [URL="http://www.oliverfranklandscapia.com"]Jollie Ollie Landscaping Home Page[/URL]

Clicking the link below will take you to the the actual website.
    Jollie Ollie Landscaping Home Page

One thing that should be clear from this exercise is that it is wise to be careful about clicking on a link that may be in a post. The URL displayed is not necessarily the link you will be taken to. I could set up a signature that would look like it was a Yahoo page, but would actually take you to a Google page. Or it could take you to a malicious "phishing" page that would attempt to get you to reveal some of your passwords.

I have set my signature back to its normal version

And just for fun.... looking at Mark's hyperlinked Sig:

Note that the codes displayed in post #12 are HTML codes, and are similar to BBCode. Actual HTML code will not work in a Beesource signature line, you must use BBCode.

That is just a direct copy of Mark's HTML code in post #12. Does it not seem to be working? Perhaps part of it is not working, but isn't the effect the same?

Herb, the code you posted is what has come to your computer. But the Beesource vBulletin forum software has translated the BBCode in Mark's signature into HTML code that goes to your computer.

If you try modifying your signature as a test to use HTML as per post #12, you will find it will not work as a clickable link. To get a link to work in a signature, it will have to be BBCode.

When I first saw Ollie's recently modified signature, it had HTML code in it, and was not an active link. I offered a similar BBCode version, and demonstrated that it could work in a signature.

Ollie, if you want to try this again, send me a PM.

I wondered if that was a possibility, but could not think of a reason it would happen. Thanks for the explanation.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) - used across the internet, used with network protocols for computers running network server programs, to communicate with other computers running browser programs. It is what allows web browsers, like Microsoft Explorer to function.

BBC (Bulletin Board Code) - various versions of this work similarly to HTML, but only within each bulletin board software program. Creates the functionality of bulletin board sites, like Beesource. The software using the BBC language, translates or uses directly, HTML where it must interface with the WWW (World Wide Web)/internet.

For some reason, the HTML code that you posted is missing key components, to make it a complete/functional HTML statement. It is basically missing the end -- [/URL].

    You posted: URL="http://www.oliverfranklandscapia.com"]www.oliverfrank

    This is missing: "landscapia.com[/URL]"

I intentionally left the first bracket off at the beginning of the text above, so it wouldn't be misinterpreted by the Beesource software as an actual HTML statement.

When working to make your signature a hyperlink, the Beesource site allows you to see and edit the code yourself, or hide the actual code and use tools, like the hyperlink icon/button, which does the code for you. There is an icon/button, which looks like a capital A, above a hyperlinked capital A. This tool switches between hiding the actual code text and displaying it, so it can be edited.

Not sure what is going on but

    Jollie Ollie Landscaping Home Page

    appeared to work for me.....

Do you see this in your Signature Permissions:

    Allow Link BB Code Yes

I'll leave that in my sig for a little bit.
