Default How many medium supers do I need

Hello to all who are way more experienced than I. My first 3 lb packages are due to arrive February and I am wanting to use all 8 frame medium boxes.
the question I pose is "How many supers do I need to to dedicate for brood?"
Thanks in advance and feel free to ask any questions that will help to get a good answer.

roughly 1 1/2 medium frames equals a deep frame. if local experienced beekeepers are wintering in single 10 frame deeps then you will need [10 times 1 1/2] about 15 medium frames or 2 [8] mediums. if local keepers are wintering in doubles you will need 4 [8] mediums. if your area has some singles and some doubles figure on 3 [8] mediums... you will need at least 2 more honey supers per hive once you get going. I suspect you are in a 3 medium [8] area.

3-4 brood. Depends on weather and available forage.

I hived two packages in 8 frame medium hives on memorial weekend this year, my 1st year beekeeping.
It was a late start but they managed to fill 3 medium 8 frame boxes each and that was with some drawn comb.
I maybe should have added a fourth box of undrawn foundations but summer was winding down when they got the 3rd one filled so
decided to let them go into winter with 3 medium 8 frames each.
If they had gotten a earlier start than they probably would have gone into winter with 4 mediums, FWIW.

why mediums--an eight frame deep isnt that heavy for brood boxes--

Bigger boxes=less equipment less assembly less initial cost

I am looking have all boxes the same. Storage maybe an issue in the future also I don't mind having to put stuff together. Additionally, the constant phase I keep hearing from others in this hobby; If you don't have a bad back now, you will.

    welcome to the forum 11.

using all the same size equipment has some advantages for sure.

as far as brood, the nest will vary in size depending on what time of year it is.

i'd try to have around 4-5 supers per colony, and be in a position to get more ready if needed.

how big they get in the first year depends on several variables including your location, the weather, and if you feed or not.
