    Default Oxalic acid dribble works!!

    Hey all,
I did OA dribble treatment for mites two days ago. Results were great! My Italian hives each have dropped about 300-400 mites, Carniolans each hive 50-100, homebred mutts each hive 30-40, and my one Russian hive only dropped 2. All in two days. Wow. Quite pleasing for my first time using OA.

Would you mind posting where your info came from? I've been hinting about it myself.

Great news! Can't wait to use OA dribble as well.

That's not very many Varroa... either you didn't have very many Varroa or it's not very effective... Since it's generally effective, I'd say you had almost no Varroa to start with.

    Good news on your treatment.
Did you use the low, medium or high concentration?

Would you be able to elaborate more on your findings please.
Open brood, sealed brood? Or both is what you have experienced while using OA yourself?

Personally I would wait until the hive is broodless to use OA dribble. It does not penetrate the brood to kill the mites in there. Since 80% of the mites are usually found in the brood, you're missing a lot of mites. Also, it is generally recognized that one can only treat with OA dribble once a year.

My hives are completely closed up for winter by the time they are broodless. I guess I could wait for a warm January day next time.

What makes you say that? Where did you get your data?

I have mostly "resistant" stock, and this is the first time I've treated with anything more than a little FMGO fogging. So this is really the first time I've done a real treatment, and I'm not sure what I should be looking for. (?)

Also, each time I inspected, I would see a handful of bees with mites visible on them. I assumed that really meant there was alot.

Is this a sticky board count?
