Cranberry Honey: Is there such a thing?
I have 40 hives in the middle of 80 acres of cranberrys. They have been there since right after apple blossom. I took honey off of those hives and another yd about 3 miles away mostly in the woods. I got about 2 shallows per hive this pull. After all of the honey from these 2 yds was extracted I put it in buckets. It's on the dark side and has its own flavor.
Bamboo just started blooming a week ago. Goldenrod just started bearing, Knapweed has been in bloom for a while but not much around this part of The North Country. There is some loostrife on the 80 acres, but the cranberry grower keeps it down I think. There is basswood in the woods around the beds.
So what can this darkish honey be? Cranberry honey? Is there such a thing? What does it look like? Taste like?
I'm considering a special label to put on the lid. Round and cranberry colored. "Limited Edition, Bee Blended, Keenan Road Cranberry/Basswood Honey".
